Dan’s P.O.V

‘Left!’ Julie exclaimed as she held up targets at the height of her head. I kicked with my left leg towards her head.

‘Right!’ I made a heel kick with my right leg.

‘Upwards!’ I swung my leg upwards and kicked the target that was at my own height.

‘Double punch!’ She exclaimed as she held the target in front of her. I punched it with both of my fists at the same time.

‘Finish!’ Julie exclaimed as she held the target against her stomach. I jumped, turned 360 degrees and made a backward kick. With full force, my foot hit the target and Julie was pushed backwards.

She looked up and said, ‘Good job! You are way better than a week ago!’ I fell to the ground on my back out of fatigue. I looked up at Julie and saw that she was smiling brightly. That’s when I noticed something. She was smiling brightly, yet I saw a pair of eyes that were filled with sorrow and grief. She really must have suffered a lot if you saw it in her eyes.

‘Dan!’ I got back to reality and looked at Julie. ‘What’s wrong?’ She sighed. ‘I called you three times.’ I rubbed at the back of my head and laughed. ‘I’m sorry. I was just daydreaming.’ I told her. ‘We got to go. Joe wanted to discuss something.’ She said with a serious look on her face. I nodded slowly and got up. Together we walked towards Joe’s office.

‘I’m sorry that I have to bother you on your training day,’ Joe started. ‘But I got something important to discuss.’

It was the standard scenario. Kaya and I were standing in front of Joe, who was sitting in his chair behind his desk, and Julie was leaning with her back against the wall that was closest to me.

‘There really are scientists who have been kidnapped by the Dark Hounds.’ Kaya gasped. ‘What? Why?’ She asked shocked. Joe stood up and walked towards the window. ‘That’s the thing we don’t know.’

He turned around and looked at Kaya. ‘Kaya,’ he said with a serious look on his face. ‘I want you and Ayden to go find out how many people are in the Dark Hounds and what kind of magic they use. They must have files or something about it. Hack into their information system and get as much as information you can get about them!’ Kaya had a big grin on her face. ‘Aye sir! I’m on my way.’ She exclaimed and she ran out of the office.

Joe turned his face towards me and Julie. ‘Julie, Dan. I want you to go to this address.’ He said as he handed over a piece of paper. ‘There are about three members of the Dark Hounds there. I want you to find out their motive to kidnap those scientists.’ Julie pushed herself off the wall and stood next to me with her arms crossed in front of her chest. ‘What are you planning to do, Joe?’ She said suspicious. ‘Nothing.’ He said with a monotone voice.

He was lying. We all knew that he was planning something.

‘Dan, let’s go.’ Julie said, grabbing my arm. ‘Uh, yes.’ I said, coming back to reality. We walked out of the room. I turned my head only once to see Joe looking out of the window with a difficult look on his face.

‘He is up to something, isn’t he?’ I asked as I turned my head back towards Julie, who was still holding my arm firmly. She stopped walking and ran with her hand through her hair.  She sighed confused. ‘I don’t know! I don’t want to believe that he is planning to attack the Dark Hounds hideout.’ She said frustrated as she looked in my eyes. ‘That would be insane!’

I grabbed her shoulders and looked her straight in her eyes. ‘Listen, if he is planning to do that, then we follow it. It’ll be alright, but we now need to go to that address.’ I said, calming her down.

Julie’s P.O.V

We stood in front of the house that Joe had ordered us to go to. ‘It’s in the middle of the fucking town. How are we supposed to receive information when we can’t afford to attract attention?’ I said pissed off. Dan shrugged my shoulders. ‘I don’t know. Let’s just get this over with.’

I walked up to the porch step and turned the door knob. By my surprise, it opened. ‘It’s open?’ Dan asked confused. ‘Don’t let your guard down.’ I said, looking at Dan out the corner of my eye. ‘Something’s not right.’ I said focused. I grabbed Ferrum, my dark Iron sword, and I carefully opened the door further.

I stepped into the house and we saw right away another door. I opened it and pushed it further with my sword. I looked into the room, but I didn’t saw anyone. I smelled a weird scent. I sniffed my nose. ‘Gunpowder.’ I mumbled to myself. ‘Dan, watch out!’ I exclaimed and right after that I heard a gunshot. We hid behind the walls next to the opening of the door.

‘Come out! You won’t stand a change!’ A male’s voice yelled. I smirked. ‘We’ll see.’ I grabbed one of the smoke bombs and threw it in the room. The bomb exploded and smoke was spread everywhere.

I heard the sound of coughing. I came out of my hideout and ran into the room, knocking out the first guy I saw with the wrong side of my sword. I slammed my sword against his neck and he felt to the round.

I was about to turn around, but I was stopped by two, muscular arms that held me from behind. ‘Gotcha you little bitch.’ A deep male’s voice said. I fight to get out of his grip, but as I hard as tried, it was useless. I suddenly heard the guy groan and felt how his arms let go of my body. I turned around and saw Dan who had raised his wooden sword in the air. He had knocked out the guy. He had a grin on his face.

I heard a battle roar and looked at my left to see the last guy coming for us with a knife in his hand. Dan and I both raised our swords and waited for the guy to be near to us. At the right moment, we both slammed our swords in each side of the guy’s neck. He dropped to the ground and that made me realize how easy it was.

‘Tch, pathetic. These guys are supposed to be members of the Dark Hounds?’ I said, irritated by the weakness of these guys. Dan grabbed the rope from his backpack and tied up the three men. ‘I expected them to put up more of a fight too.’ Dan said, agreeing with my statement.

‘I think we hit the last guy a bit too hard.’ Dan said, looking at the guy’s neck. Both sides were completely bruised and there was a little bit of vomit on his shirt. ‘Then he should’ve been stronger.’ I said, not caring about the guy’s life.  ‘Let’s just wait for them to wake up and then we question them. The sooner this is over, the better.’
