Chapter 11; Shocking discoveries

Kaya’s P.O.V

‘Okay, I’m in!’ Ayden told me. ‘Great, go through all the files.’ I ordered him. Ayden scrolled through all the files that were in the system. ‘Let’s see. There are a lot of files. Most about trainings and missions.’ Ayden muttered. ‘Open the ones with the trainings.’ I ordered Ayden. Ayden opened the file and right away, more files popped up. ‘How many fucking files are there?’ Ayden mumbled to himself.

‘Stone throwing? Ice bath? Fire resisting?’ I said confused as I saw the names of the trainings. ‘Open the coal walking training!’ Ayden did what I said and there were only two files in it. ‘There is a document and a video. Which one do you want me to open?’ ‘Open the document. I don’t think I want to see that video.’ I said. 

He opened the document and a description of the training was being explained in it. ‘They have to walk over hot coals before they can enter the Dark Hounds.’ Ayden told me. I gasped out of shock. ‘That’s just sick! Why?’ Ayden continued reading. ‘It says that you have to do it to proof that you have no fear. If you have pain, if you scream or even twitch your feet a wrong way, you can’t enter the Dark Hounds.’

‘Let’s go to the next file. I don’t want to read any more of that.’ I said, telling Ayden to stop talking about it. It made me nauseous. ‘Did you remember it?’ I asked Ayden, before I clicked the file away. ‘Yes ma’am.’

‘There is a file that contents the information about their magic.’ I looked at the screen. There were only three files. ‘Read those three files.’ I ordered him.

‘Did you find anything?’ I asked him after 10 minutes. ‘Something weird.’ Ayden said shocked. ‘What?’ I asked, getting curious. 

‘They don’t have any mages. All the mages of the Dark Hounds disappeared three years ago.’ I gasped. ‘To be more precisely, they were murdered by the boss.’ My eyes grew wide.

‘Why?’ Ayden scrolled back to the part where he read it. ‘It says that three years ago, the previous boss was tortured and murdered. It doens’t say who did it. The recent boss changed the rules and decided to make the Dark Hounds an organization without mages. He murdered all of his mages quiet brutally with his bare hands.’

‘His bare hands? What kind of monster is this boss?’ I asked Ayden, who simply shrugged his shoulders. ‘I don’t know, but we know that he isn’t a guy we should fuck with. If Joe really plans to attack them, than we should come with a strategy. A good one.’ I placed my thumb on my chin. This is going to be a hard battle. Why would he kill his own people with his bare hands?

 ‘Is the name of the boss written somewhere in those documents?’ Ayden shook his head. ‘Go search for something about the members. About their skills or something.’ Ayden nodded confident and search for it.

 ‘There is a file called members. Should I open it?’ He said, after a little while. ‘Yes!’ I exclaimed, happy that we find something useful. He clicked on the file and it opened, popping up a list of documents with all kinds of names. ‘How many are there?’ I asked. ‘136 members.’ Ayden finally said after counting. 

Suddenly, a name caught my attention. ‘No way! He is a member?!’ I exclaimed shocked as I saw the name of the person. ‘We have to warn Joe and the rest!’

Meanwhile…

Julie’s P.O.V

I was sitting on the windowsill with my eyes closed. I felt how the warmth of the sun embraces my face. ‘He, Julie. I think one of them is waking up.’ Dan said as he looked at the second guy we knocked out. I walked towards him and waited for him to open his eyes. The man groaned and struggled to open his eyes.

‘Let’s get straight to business.’ I said as I placed my foot next to his head, against the wall. The guy startled from my action and looked at me with a weird look on his face.

‘Why did the Dark Hounds kidnap those scientists?’ I asked, looking the guy straight in the eyes. He did not but gritting his teeth. 

‘I asked you a damn question!’ I yelled threatening. The guys still remained silent. I heard Dan sigh. ‘Let me try it.’ He said sounding pissed off. 

Dan walked up to the guy, grabbed his collar with one hand and lifted him up in the air. ‘She asked you something, didn’t she?’ He said, having a terrifying look in his eyes. Out of nowhere, there was a sharp object against the guy’s neck. He was holding the knuckle knife that he got from Nanami. 

My eyes grew wide. I had never expected this kind of action from Dan. He had such an intense look in his eyes, like his inner rage came out of his body. Somehow, it made me feel terrified, but I know he wouldn’t do anything to me. 

‘Why did the Dark Hounds kidnap those scientists?’ Dan exclaimed as he put the end of the knife in the neck of the guy. A little bit of blood flew out d his neck. The guy groaned and finally gave up.

‘Those scientists had found out something about Magic.’ The guy exclaimed out of terror. Dan’s grip on the collar tightened. ‘What did they find out?’ Dan asked violent. ‘They find out how to stop someone’s magical powers and steal it from them.’ 

‘Steal them? You mean that they take your powers and you can’t get it back?’ I asked astonished. ‘That’s what I said.’ The guy said annoyed. ‘What are they planning to do?’ Dan said suspicious. The guy kept his mouth shut. ‘Tell me, damn it!’ Dan said impatiently as he slammed the guy against the wall.

‘Isn’t it obvious already?’ The guy said as a smirk grew on his face. ‘No way.’ I said, in shocked of what I realize. I grabbed the Memory Eraser, a long pen-like device that we use to erase the memories of a person, out of my pocket and held it in front of the guy. ‘Dan, turn around and close your eyes.’ Dan nodded. He dropped the guy hard on the ground and did what I just said. I closed my own eyes and pushed the button. The red light had finally dimmed down and the guy fell motionless on his side.

‘Let’s go. We got to report this to Joe.’ I said focused and scared at the same time. ‘What are they planning to do?’ Dan asked me. ‘They are going to take away the magical powers of all the mages.’
