Feb. 17, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
10:06PM"Fucking Penguins!" Auston yelled as he stomped into the locker room. "I hate them!"
"Well c'mon, we didn't play badly, they just beat us," Naz said.
Auston glared at him. "No, we didn't play badly. Your line sucked."
Nazem's eyes narrowed. "Five points last game..."
"Against Columbus, too," Mitch butt in.
"Don't you have school tomorrow or something? Get out of this," Auston said, now clearly pissed off. Mitch rolled his eyes and walked off to his locker.
Auston chugged a bottle of soda, and as he walked to the trash can, he passed by a smiling Willy Nylander. Auston scoffed at him.
"Hey, if you only seethe about it, you'll miss the fun part!" Willy said to Auston after ignoring his display of distaste. Auston gave him a confused look.
"What's the fun part about losing?" Auston asked, curious to hear what the optimistic Willy had to say. Will grinned.
"Well, for starters... Revenge.""Are you sure this is a good idea?" Auston asked Will as they climbed the ladder to the roof of the arena.
"Yeah, as long as we don't get caught," Willy replied. Auston's eyes widened on his green face as they climbed higher.
"How high are we gonna go?" he asked with a slight quiver in his voice that he tried to hide.
"Not too much higher... Only until we reach the top. Just don't look down and you'll be fine!"
"What are we even doing?" Auston asked.
"I already told you! We're getting revenge on these quote on quote 'fucking Penguins'!"
Auston heard something beeping and realized it was coming from Willy's back pocket as he got to the top of the ladder and the roof.
"Why do you have a walkie talkie?"
"To tell everyone in the locker room to evacuate. I would use a cell phone but the police can track those."
Auston's eyes narrowed as they both sat down at the edge of the roof, though he didn't dare look down.
"What is wrong with you? Why am I not protesting this idea, whatever it may be?" he asked Will and himself out loud.
"I dunno, because it's fun?"
"Please, without being vague, tell me what the hell we're doing on the roof of this arena."
"What does it even matter what we do?" Willy asked, his voice suddenly devoid of the bittersweet happiness that filled it just a minute ago.
Auston crinkled his nose in confusion at Willy's sudden mood change.
"Do you need to talk about something?"
"No."
The cheerful and optimistic William Nylander was almost never sad about losing. When Auston realized what all of this was about, he sighed.
"You're not really that upset about the Penguins winning. I know you, Will."
He paused for a minute. Tears that welled in Will's eyes reflected the dim light from the traffic below.
"Why's Kappy gotta have a girlfriend?"
Auston's assumptions about the reasoning behind Will's misery were correct. He already planned on what to say.
"You just have to be patient. Ya know, love or... whatever you wanna call it takes time. That's what makes it love," Auston said softly as he put a hand on his shoulder.
"He takes care of me so much. Remember when I got wasted at that bar with Kappy and he helped me and got me water?—Auston nodded—Well, yeah. Like then."
"He cares about you. He loves being with you. He got real jealous when you didn't invite him to go out with Mitch and..." Auston cringed in disgust. "The other one."
Will's heart jumped and he beamed with sparkling eyes as he looked at Auston.
"Really? He got jealous for me?"
Auston smiled and nodded. "Yeah, buddy!"
"Well, then we won't be needing these." Willy took off his jacket and pulled out two fucking Molotov cocktails and carefully set them on the concrete. Auston's face went white.
"What the fuck? You were gonna set this place on fucking FIRE?!"
"Yeah? Spur of the moment idea, I was sad," Willy attested.
"Dammit, Will. Wipe your fingerprints off those and get back into the locker room."
"Okay," he said reluctantly. "Do you think I should invite Kappy up here with me once he gets dressed though?"
Auston shrugged. "Sure, and you could give him your jacket or something. That'd be romantic."
Will smiled. "Yeah. Thanks."
"Yeah. Can we get back inside now? It's damn cold out here."
"Okay but we're still doing at least something, I didn't climb up that huge ladder for nothing," Will said as he fished around in his coat.
I swear to fuck if he pulls out a hand grenade...
To Auston's relief, Will only pulled out a roll of toilet paper and eggs.
"Good, you had a backup plan."
"Oh, no, I didn't plan on using these for revenge," Willy said. "I just carry them around, just in case I get hungry."
"What about the toilet paper?" Auston asked. Willy looked him with a confused face.
"Yeah? What about it?"
Auston had to bite his lip.
Will handed him few eggs.
"Try to hit their fans. Adults are five points, kids are ten points, and elderly people are twenty points. I'll do the TPing."
Auston smirked. "Sounds good."They finished their debauchery and got back to the locker room, miraculously, without being caught. Will started his way over to Kasperi. He took a deep breath in and tried to hide his rosy cheeks, which were red only partly from the cold outside. Kappy on the other hand, was hanging out with Travis Dermott and Dominic Moore.
When he saw Will approach him, Travis just couldn't help himself but tease Kap.
"Hey Will! I bet you won't guess who has a big, giant cru—ACK!" Kappy put him into a headlock and started choking him in a panic, his face turning bright red.
"Shut up!" he yelled at him while Dominic started dying of laughter, and Travis just started... dying.
"Fine! Fine! I'll stop! Just let me bre—!" Travis croaked out before passing out. They all watched in amusement as he flopped onto the floor when Kappy let go of him.
"That's one way to shut him up," Dom said under his breath.
"Yeah. Uh... Sorry about that," Kappy said to Will, still blushing. "He doesn't know when to not talk."
Will grinned at Kappy, and they locked eyes for a moment, both of their hearts racing. Dominic awkwardly stood there in the corner next to an unconscious Travis as he waited for Kap and Will to stop sharing their "moment."
"C'mon, I need to pee," he said. They ignored him.
"Do you wanna go on the roof with me and see what Auston and I did to the place?" Will asked with a smirk.
"Sure?" Kappy said, his voice almost as shaky as his hands. Will subtly pumped his fist in a celebratory way to himself.
"Well then, after you, min Älskling," he said. Will winked at Auston, who was across the locker room brushing his teeth. Auston grinned back and wiggled his eyebrows.
"Go get him!" he mouthed.
"I'll try!" Will mouthed back.
Right as him and Kasperi left the room, Connor Brown entered it. His entry into the room, just his presence alone, woke Travis back up just so that he could leave. After about a minute, only him and Auston were in the room.
Who knew that Will's advice could come in handy? Auston thought. I really can use this extra egg for something.
