I took a deep breath as I looked from Evan to the waterfall and back again. I couldn't believe that anyone would ever want me to be their girlfriend. "Really?" I asked him and his face fell. "You really want me of all people to be your girlfriend?"
He turned to me and gave me the strangest look. "Why would I want anybody else?"
I shrugged and looked away from him again. "I don't know. Guy just don't like me that way."
"I do," he said quietly.
It was silent as I sat alone with my thoughts. I wanted so badly to say yes to him, but Jacob was suddenly at the front of my mind. My feelings for him never went anywhere. Even as my feelings for Evan grew stronger, the ones I had for Jacob still couldn't be matched. I was happy with Evan, but would I ever be truly happy with him if I still liked Jacob that much more?
I looked back over at Evan and he was looking away, looking sad. I didn't want him to be sad and I absolutely didn't want to lose him. I reached over and squeezed his hand. He looked up. "Just because I'm surprised and a little bit scared doesn't mean I'm saying no," I told him. "It just means that I never actually thought I'd have the chance to say yes. Of course I'll be your girlfriend. Any guy that takes me to see a waterfall deserves to be my first boyfriend."
Evan's face lit up like a Christmas tree and he squeezed my hand back before pulling me into a hug. Our bare, damp skin was in full contact and even though we were still in swim suits, it felt scandalous. He pulled away and reached his hand out into the waterfall. He let the water trickle through his fingers and then playfully flicked it in my face.
"You know you scared the crap out of me. I thought you were going to say no," he said.
I laughed. "I don't think I could ever say no to someone who's as sweet as you," I said and it was true. If it wasn't for all of his grand gestures and the way he made me feel like a princess I would've turned him down. He made me not want to let him go.
We continued holding hands and I leaned over to kiss him. We made out under the waterfall for awhile before walking over and laying out on the grass to dry off before heading back.
I called an emergency meeting Sunday morning to tell them after I'd struggled to fall asleep the night before. I was just so excited and I didn't know why, so Sunday I sprung out of bed at 7 am and texted everyone to be at my house by ten. I hadn't told my parents or even Josh yet, so when they heard me moving around that early they got suspicious.
As I fell into the couch after cleaning the basement for my friends, Josh sat down right next to me.
"So what happened yesterday?"
The smile on his face told me that the smile on my own wasn't hiding a thing. "We swam, and walked, and hung out, and watched fireworks."
Josh smirked. "And kissed, and flirted."
I blushed. "An maybe sat underneath a waterfall, and maybe ended up with my first boyfriend."
Josh's smirk broke into a bright smile. "I knew it! Wait, a waterfall? I'm gonna have to use that sometime."
I didn't say anything and Josh simply smiled. "I'm glad you're happy now, Sis. It makes me happy."
He ruffled my hair and walked upstairs before calling out my secret to my parents. For some reason I wasn't mad. I didn't remember how to be mad because I was just so darn happy.
Jacob got to my house first and he pounced me as I opened the door. "I heard you spent the day with Evan yesterday." I shook my head and kept my mouth shut until Dakota and Julia got there.
