The next day was Saturday and I didn't have any plans. I was laid out on the couch in the basement watching movies by myself with a bag of Doritos when my phone lit up. "My dad is taking me down to the lake for the day. Do you want to come?" It was Evan. I immediately smiled.

"I want to, but I'll have to ask."

I hopped up and ran upstairs to the kitchen Mom and Dad were both there and getting ready to leave. "Can I go to the lake with Evan today? His dad wants to take us."

My parents exchanged a look and my dad gave my mom a goodbye kiss before ruffling my hair and leaving. That's when my mom crossed her arms. "So you like this Evan boy now?"

I shrugged. I did like him, but I knew she was referring to the way I still had feelings for Jacob. "Jacob has Emily. Why can't I have someone else too? Everybody likes him. Even Josh and Ryan."

My mom sighed and hugged me. "I know they do. Josh has told me all about him. You can go to the lake. Just make sure to text Josh about when you're coming home. Your dad and I are going out for a late dinner tonight."

I nodded, pulled back from her, and ran up the stairs to my room. I still had my bag I always took to the lake at camp packed, so I pulled it out as Evan called me. "Did you ask? My dad wants to leave in like 20 minutes."

I smiled at how eager he sounded. "Yeah. I was just looking for all of my lake stuff."

"Bring sneakers too," he told me. "I usually go on hikes around the lake."

I nodded to myself as I searched the bottom of my closet for a pair of sneakers. "I found a pair."

Evan seemed to be bubbling with excitement. "Okay. We'll be there to pick you up soon."

I went across the hall and knocked on Josh's door before returning to my room. He came in as I was staring between my two bathing suits, trying to decide which to wear. Josh came over and stood in my doorway like I knew he would. "Yeah?"

"I'm going to the lake with Evan today. Mom said it's okay."

He shook his head. "And?"

"Which bathing suit should I wear?"

Josh threw his head back. "I think I liked it better when you weren't trying to impress boys. Ask Julia. You guys made up for a reason."

I glared at him and pulled my phone out to send to Julia. "He's not going to care which one you wear, you know," Josh told me.

I shrugged. "It's important."

I sat down on my bed as I waited for Julia to respond. "You're going to be fine," Josh reassured me. "It won't be a big deal."

Julia started calling me and I pushed Josh out while I answered. "Okay. You need to tell me the whole story between you two right now. I've been watching you at lunch with him and Jacob said he heard that you kissed. You have to spill!"

I laughed and sighed in relief at the same time. I really needed the girl talk. "Tell me which one to wear first! I have to change. They're coming soon!"

"The mint one. Now spill!"

I put her on speaker as I recapped our entire relationship making sure to tell her all about the few kisses we shared. I changed into my bathing suit and put a pair of jean shorts and I loose tshirt over top. As I was telling her how excited he seemed to take me to the lake I heard a horn blow outside. Seconds later there was a knock on the door. "I have to go! He's here!"

She laughed and told me to have fun. I double checked my bag and my bracelets and ran downstairs, bumping Josh away before he could open the door.

When I opened it he was smiling. He had his light brown hair gelled up into some sort of shape and his worn orange tshirt brought out the green in his eyes in the best way possible. "Hey," we both said at the same time after looking each other over for a good ten seconds.
