Mom and Dad ran around looking for the insurance card and all of the other things they thought we needed. Jacob's mom went upstairs with her kids and I was briefly left alone with Josh and Chad. "Get her out to the car," Dad demanded the boys as he passed through the room again in search of the house keys.

Josh instructed Chad on where to find the car keys and made him open the door before he scooped me up in his arms again. "I can walk," I told him, but he shook his head.

"I'm taking care of you this time."

Chad held doors and opened the car, helping Josh slide me in the backseat without hitting my head on the roof.

More and more blood kept pouring from my head and Josh held me as fear rose up inside me. Chad was leaning against the outside of the car, peering in at us when Josh shifted suddenly. "Go in and get her iPod and headphones. It's on the table by the door in the basement. It might help keep her calm."

Chad took off in a jog and Josh kept me pinned to his side with the uninjured side of my head resting on his shoulder. Chad was back in minutes and passed my iPod through the open door as my parents came out with nearly everyone else in tow. Dad climbed in the driver's seat and Mom, who was more of an emotional wreck than I was blubbered to Jacob's mom as she and Ryan's dad guided her to the passenger's seat. Jacob was the last one out the door aside from Melissa and rushed to the open door where Chad was, pushing him out of the way. He climbed in and slid beside me.

"Jacob, I told you to leave her alone. You'd get left in the waiting room anyway," his mom scolded him. He ignored her and hugged me. Josh didn't let go of the towel or stop applying pressure to my head, but allowed Jacob to pull me toward him slightly.

"Feel better, Cassie." His mom came up and started pulling him out of the car by the back of his shirt. "I'll text you!" He shouted out as his mom pulled him away.

My dad turned in his seat and demanded Josh and I buckle up. Ryan replaced Chad at the open door and slid my seatbelt around me, then put pressure on my head so Josh's hands were free for him to buckle himself. "You're gonna be fine, Cass," he assured me as he stood back up. "I'll see you soon."

He shut the door and my dad backed out of the driveway before I could say anything back to anyone. Josh continued to hold me for the entire ride to the hospital and with the help of Dad, pulled me out of the car at the entrance to the emergency room. Josh and Mom took me inside as Dad went back out to park the car.

With Mom's hysterical crying, they didn't make me wait long when we got inside. Josh had no choice but to put me down and let me walk, but he wouldn't let me go. For the most part I was totally composed. My right eye only watered from the pain that was right next to it. I didn't understand why he wouldn't let me go, but when the nurse made him part with me for a second to walk me across the room and sit me down to get my blood pressure, I understood. I was extremely light headed and weak, nearly collapsing when I was on my own for the brief second before the nurse caught me.

They brought a fresh towel to hold to my head and Josh stood next to me and held it for me. One hand applied force to my cut and the other gently tickled the back of my neck to keep me calm. As Mom and Josh answered all the questions another doctor came in with a cart of medical supplies. They wasted no time moving me to the bed and laying me down.

Someone asked whether or not I was afraid of needles and how well I deal with pain. My mom finally fell silent and didn't know what to say. "She's not afraid of needles, but I don't know how she'll react to stitches," Josh spoke up.

"Are you the boyfriend or the brother?" The doctor asked him.

"Brother."

The doctor nodded. "You won't be able to hold her hand because of the angle I'll have to work from. You might be able to sit behind her on the bed and find some way to comfort her, but that's up to you. We'll have to start in a minute."
