Derek woke me up a few hours later since we needed to meet with Scott at the animal clinic.

"I'm saying we need a new plan, because next time, one of us is gonna be too hurt to heal." Derek said to Scott who reeked of anxiety.

"Ugh, I get it. We can't save Jackson." Scott stressed.

"Uh, Yes we can." I spoke up, only to be ignored.

"We can't seem to kill him either." Derek snided, earning a shove from me. "I've seen a lot of things, Scott. I've never seen anything like this. Every new moon's just gonna make him stronger."

"But how do we stop him?" I stepped back, realizing that I wasn't gonna get a say in this debate at all.

"I don't know. I don't even know if we can." Derek sighed, a little in defeat.

"Maybe we should just let the Argents handle it." I backed off the wall, giving Scott a 'what the hell' look. Was he crazy?

"I'm the one who turned him. It's my fault." Derek said, standing up for himself. I walked next to him and wrapped my hand around his wrist in comfort.

"Yeah, but you didn't turn him into this." Scott said, "I mean, this happened because of something in his past, right?"

"That's a legend in a book. It's not that simple." Derek denied, not believing the bestiary and it's stories.

"What do you mean? What are you not telling us?" Scott said, causing me to look a Derek, who didn't dare glance at me.

"Why do you think I'm always keeping something from you?" Derek spoke, hurt feigning his face, but not reaching his eyes.

"Because you always are keeping something from us." Scott truthfully said. I released my grip from Derek's arm as I wrapped my arms around myself.

"Well, maybe I do it to protect you, both of you." he muttered, looking back and forth between Scott and I.

"Doesn't being a part of your pack mean no more secrets?" Scott said as I walked back up against the wall.

"Go home, Scott." Derek said, avoiding the question. He was hiding something, or else he wouldn't have dismissed the question. "Sleep. Heal. Make sure your friends are safe. 'Cause the full moon's coming. And with the way things are going, I've got a feeling it's gonna be a rough one."

Scott walked out and I pushed off the wall, getting ready to follow since I needed to get home.

"Hallie," Derek called, bringing me to a halt. "I'm only doing it to protect you guys. You know that right?"

"Derek, we can protect ourselves. It's the trust in us you don't have." I said, my heart aching as I walked away from him.

I walked outside, meeting Scott beside my car. We slid in and I started the car, backing up and driving the way to school. "Hal, you good?" Scott asked, placing one his hands on my hand that rested on the gear shift.

I sighed, "Yeah, I'm good." I gave him a smile before focusing back on the road. We arrived at home. As I walked up the stairs, I knew that Derek would appear next to me later that night, and I when I came back from eating dinner, I was right.

Later on that night, I had recurring nightmares, as you would call it, but I never once woke Derek up from his peaceful slumber. After a few more times of trying to sleep and waking up to nightmares, I just gave up and stayed awake, thinking about everything around me.

Soon enough the sun started to peek through the blinds and I groaned.

I snuggled more into Derek's arms, not wanting to get up for the day that was starting. His breathing was still uneven as I watched his chest moved up and down in a pattern.
