It had been barely a moment after I had closed my eyes to relax, that they snapped back open in excitement. With a jolt, I shot from my seat, which caused the Doctor to pause in his actions to glance at me. I glided over to the console and roughly slapped my hands to its surface.
The Doctor raised his eyebrows as he peaked over the console to glance at me, "What's got you up and... Spazzy?" He hesitated, attempting to find the right word. Quickly, he skipped around and hit buttons and pulled levers before he stopped to give me a pointed look that quickly turned into a happy grin.
In return, I gave him a cheesy pout, before I propped myself up and mumbled, "How long have I been with you?" Immediately, his smile dropped and he pursed his lips. He raised a single eyebrow, and watched me for a moment.
"Specifics? Or is a simple answer preferred?" He questioned, as he eyed me suspiciously.
"Is that a serious question?" I replied with my tongue in cheek, and he offered me a quick pout before he reached around me to speedily slam a button.
He quickly carried on the conversation, pretending nothing had happened as he answered, "A little over a year now. Why? Do you want to celebrate an anniversary? Go somewhere special?" A soft giggle escaped me, and he regained his smile for a split second, before his face sunk back down into a frown.
"Or are you thinking of leaving me?" He paused, his eyes looked me over sadly. With that sentence, his eyes seemed to have dropped their regular glimmer. I almost panicked, as I quickly jumped on my reply to save that familiar, comforting shine.
"Not any time soon. Sorry, you invited me- and now you're stuck with me," I quickly reassured him as I reached out and rested my hand on the sleeve of his coat. The flash of utter relief that crossed his face caused me to giggle as I looked him over. I gave him a smile, before I returned to my original plan of conversation.
"I just realized, all this time that I've spent strictly with you-" I paused to pull what may have very well been one of my own stray (h/c) hairs from his overcoat. "-Yet, I know little to nothing about you- or at least, not the normal things."
He raised his eyebrows and waited for me to continue with a curious glint in his eyes. For a moment, he opened his mouth almost to question me, before he shut it quickly.
"Favourite colour- favourite animal and book, song and sound," I explained and gently removed my hand from his coat. His eyes followed my hand, before they slowly drifted up to meet mine with a tender gaze.
He seemed amused, and asked with a dipped smile, "You could ask me anything- and you want to know my favourite colour? Why?"
I tilted my head at him, and scanned him with my (e/c) eyes, "I want to get to know you better. Is that really such a foreign thought?" He blinked at me, tucked his hands away inside his coat and began to mess with the suspenders hidden underneath with his thumbs nervously. It was very rare to catch the Doctor off guard, and finally- I had done it.
"You know- one day, I will regenerate," He began, "I'll be a completely different person- but I'll still have all the memories." He sighed, face sinking at the thought.
"Then I'll continue my game- I'll learn everything I can about you again," I stated firmly and reached out to grab his bowtie. "But~ Now that you mention it- I don't think you know my favourite colour either-"
"Is it (f/c)?" He quickly cut me off to ask. I rolled my eyes at him with a playful grin and snickered.
"Maybe~ but, like I was saying, if that's the case then you'll have to wait to learn certain things about me, just to keep things fair." Face blank, it took him a second to retort.
"How is that supposed to be fair? Your taste buds change- so will your favourite food, I'll have to do just as much catching up-"
"That's not the same! Not at all!" I grumbled exasperatedly. Quietly, he sighed. Green eyes watched me closely, studied me for moments before slowly, a tiny grin took over his face. We stared at each other, and for a while were stuck on what to do next. But, the Doctor being the Doctor, he broke the silence with a friendly question.
"Do you imagine it being a fun game?" He asked quietly as he tilted his head to the side. It took me a moment to remember I had referred to this idea as a game- and I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Yes," I shuffled around, suddenly finding it hard to keep his gaze. "Is that bad?" Eyes softened, it was almost as if he couldn't help it as he gently reached out and held my face. Seemingly by instinct, I gave into his touch, closed my eyes and enjoyed it while it happened.
His hand was warm- very warm. But it wasn't sweaty, but rather calloused from all his work. As his finger tips had gently rubbed the surface of my cheek, I realized they were rough. In the moment, I couldn't pin point what from, all I knew was that I very much enjoyed his touch. However, he pulled me from my thoughts, and forced me to meet his delicate gaze.
"No, not at all," His eyes seemed to smile at me as he quietly spoke.
"You- (f/n) (m/n) (l/n)," His mellow whisper almost caught me off guard as I practically melted between his fingers. "You are the most special girl I think I have ever met- no, no that's not right. You are the most special girl I have ever had the pleasure of lying eyes on." I think I would have gasped, if I wasn't so captivated by the distinguished emotion in his eyes. His words were so slow, so measured and refined. It seemed almost as if he had practiced. Even the 'mistake' he made- it appeared as if he had imagined himself saying it over and over again.
It made me happy- happier than I can describe. A warm, fuzzy feeling that had sunk in neither quick nor slow- it made my face pink and my fingers tingle. I beamed as he slid his hand down to my shoulder, and pulled me into an embrace.
"So, what do you want to know first?"
