Zeke's POV:
I write my last page and walk to Four's house. I ring the doorbell and he isn't there, so I leave the little notebook on the doormat.
Four's POV:
I come home from my new job, since all my money was wasted for Tris.
There is a notebook lying on my doormat. I open it.
Dear Four,
It's your bud, Zeke. I know you and Tris have been having some troubles, but I believe FourTris can last. I made a challenge for you. You will do something different for her everyday for 40 days. Give her 40 days. Tris should be back today. You will see day 1 on the next page.
- Zeke -
I sigh and flip the page.
Day 1: Love is patient
The first part of this dare is fairly simple. Although love is communicated in a number of ways, our words often reflect the condition of our heart. For the next day, resolve to demonstrate patience and to say nothing negative to your lover at all. If the temptation arises, choose not to say anything. It's better to hold your tongue than to say something you'll regret
I sit down on my couch and sigh. I walk outside and sit on my bench. I think I slowly fall asleep, and then I hear a car knock over something. Tris. She knocked over my trashcan. I laugh.
She glares at me and walks into her house. I smile back.
Later, she comes outside to check the mail. She stops and stares at me. "Shouldn't you be with your internet?" she asks. I am about to scream but I stop.
"Or your little Lauren? Or your best friends? Or your perfect little lif-" I cut her off, "No. I felt as if I needed to get some fresh air." I say.
She rolls her eyes at me. "Have fun converting oxygen into carbon dioxide beetch." She says and walks away, expecting me to say something.
I did it, that was quite simple. I put the journal on my sidetable and think of day 2. Not working so far.
I sleep.
I awaken to a bright sun and a memory if the journal. I read Day 2
Day 2: Love is kind
In addition to saying nothing negative to your spouse again today, do at least one unexpected gesture as an act of kindness.
Ugh. I'm tired of this. I don't want to do all this.
Zeke's POV:
I call Four. I ask him how things are doing. He says the journal isn't working and it's Day 2. He says all she ever does is complain and question.
I sigh. "Bro, it takes time. 40 days is a lot more than 2. Don't stop now, you're not a quitter." I say. "I guess." he replys.
Tris's POV:
Four has been acting weird lately. First he didn't scream at me. Then, he bought me presents. Then, he called to make sure I was okay. I talk to Christina. She says he is having guy problems that us girls don't know about.
Uriah and Zeke are having a party today, so I dress in layers. I watch TV until 6:00. I drive over to their house.
I knock on the door. I have no life these days, so I'm a little early.
Mason texts me. I smile.
have you broken up with him yet? -M
nope. He is having boy hormones -T
