~Chapter 39~

Third person's point of view.

Mito stood in Pein's personal office, going over his scrolls and books on anything that might interest her or help later on. She had found a theory on regrowth by an unknown author and it called out to her, sitting in the desk chair with the chair back to the door she flipped it open and let it sit on her crossed knees as she turned the pages with her hand,

It was interesting and could probably be done with the right people and base structure. But the outcome would leave the regrown limb an unnatural white. Easily hidden with bandages or long clothing. Sensing Sasuke outside the door, she called him in before he knocked, coming into the room he pouted at her,

"I hate it when you do that." he said jokingly. Mito chuckled but kept her back turned, after he got his eyes back he was still a bit blurry and she passed off her red eyes as him seeing a bit of a double effect, but lately they've been getting stronger, and spent most of her time in Pein's office going over his papers and such to keep the eyes a secret as long as possible.

"You going to turn and look at me?" he asked with his hands on his hips, turning to her left she looked at him with a raised brow and a half smile, closing her book she discreetly pushed her bangs over her right eyes to hide it and turned completely to look at him, it was a cheap shot but she had to try and hide it until she absolutely needed to show him.

"What were you reading?" he asked leaning on the desk, his head in his hands as he leaned on his elbows, "Nothing that would affect you, so don't worry." she said and pushed their conversation even further onto something else, "You all packed?" he nodded and frowned, "Why do you always leave yourself out of that question?" she panicked internally,

"I told you before I have some things to do, so I'll only be dropping you off and then I'll need to leave. But the minute it's done I'll be back and you can punish me however you want, deal?" she said holding out her hand to him with a smile on her face. Narrowing his eyes at her he was skeptical but trusted her and nodded,

Besides, he could do what he wanted with her when she got back, that made him eager for her to start and then finish as quick as she could. "Do you know how long you be?" he asked still disappointed she won't go with him. "I don't know, sorry." she said and shooed him for a bit so she could finish her book,

Smirking at her he kissed her cheek and left the room to go and occupy himself. When he was gone Mito wrote a letter to Tsunade or whoever was presently in charge. In this letter, she wrote down everything that happened and that Sasuke was a free man no longer tied to Orochimaru or his anger towards Itachi.

That he was coming home to stay and to help protect the village with Naruto and everyone else. She also added in that it was her that killed Danzo and was not going to return because she killed Council members no matter what they've done it was an offense and that she deserved to be alone and homeless as penance.

The next morning Mito was the first up and had essentials packed before getting dressed and waking Sasuke so he could get ready while she cooked something for everyone, while he was in the shower she left the room and went into the kitchen only to see Tobi sitting at the table with his head on his hand and his visible Sharingan eye locked on her.

With Shisui's eyes, she was able to tell what kind of power he had and knew that he was only at half of his abilities with it, smirking she scoffed a bit. "I know where the other one is." she said in a sing-along voice before breezing by him and his stiff form. "I don't know what you're talking about Mito-chan." he said turning goofy and fake.

"Oh, you don't fool me at all." she said leaning against the countertop, her elbow on the edge as she watched him, her tomas spinning to add a bit a flare. "The man was my teacher and was a close friend, I know his power like it's my own." she snapped and Tobi's eyes narrowed as he could feel she was close to figuring him out.

"Don't worry about your dirty little secrets, I won't tell," she said and he could tell she wasn't lying and sighed discreetly, "Yet." she added and his blood ran cold. "Kidding." she finished after a long while of silence in which she made something to eat and left with it on a tray. "See, I could be goofy and stupid too, Tobi-chan." and with that, she left the room and returned to hers.

On the road, Suigetsu and Karin couldn't shut up, then bitched and argued back and forth for hours and Mito was slowly losing her patience. Sasuke sensing this turned and looked at them, he didn't say anything and just looked at them and they stopped shouting and arguing, which calmed Mito enough to let her hand unclench.

When it did Sasuke took the opportunity to lace his fingers with hers. She didn't mind and didn't pull away. Karin silently screamed at their hand holding and ground her teeth in her continued silent rage. Suigetsu snickered at her and got a punch to the arm for it while Jugo was softly smiling walking next to them.

Their base wasn't far from Konoha, about half a days walk and when they arrived, Mito had to slow down a bit and when she did it pulled Sasuke back and he stumbled to her side, confused. "Mito?" he questioned then remembered she had to do something first, smiling softly he leaned down and kissed her for her attention,

Returning the kiss he pulled up and nodded, "I know you got to go, be careful?" he asked and she nodded, pulling her hand from his she untucked her letter and held it out to him, "To the Hokage or Tsunade, whichever you see first, don't forget or open it before you find them." she said and he nodded.

"I promise, so long as you keep yours." she nodded and pulled him down those few inches for a kiss. Getting a bit carried away she had to stop them and smirked when she saw that Suigetsu had a bloody nose and pervy red cheeks while Karin sported an angry red face. "Go," she said patting his backside to get him moving,

When he and the other three were a few paces ahead she stopped Jugo, "Watch out for him for me?" she asked and he nodded with a smile, "Always." nodding her thanks she turned and vanished with one step.
