You Were In College

Spencer's POV

I car pooled with Hanna and Caleb, to Toby's rehearsal dinner and I couldn't be more nervous. Hanna kept telling me I was going to be fine, that I should let loose and have fun but how could I possibly have a good time when I have to watch Toby and Yvonne cuddle up to each other. Adam was coming to so that would add to the stress, Toby's going to spend the rest of his life with a woman who literally scares the living crap out of my son.

"Spence calm down I'm sure Yvonne is going to try and make it up to Adam."

Caleb turned into the venue and parked the car.

"Yeah well while you two will be all lovey dovey I'll be protecting my son from the wicked witch of the west."

Hanna undid her seat belt and opened the back door for me to step out.

"This isn't Oz this is Rosewood."

Caleb handed me Adam once he had got him out the car.

"Well if I can't skip down the yellow brick road can I at least make a deal with Ursula even if it cost me my voice."

Caleb and Hanna sighed.

"Okay you've been reading to many fairy tales." Caleb grabbed hold of Hanna's hand and we made our way into the rehearsal dinner.

The room was filled with dozens of people, some I recognised and some I didn't.
Toby spotted us when we walk in and he led Yvonne over with him, Adam starts to stick to me like glue.

"Hey guys glad you could make it."
"Spence I just want to apologise for making Adam so upset, I really want to have a good relationship with him and I don't want to take your place."

"Yeah well you scared him alot so you will need to make it up to him. Ow Adam sweetie your hurting mommy."

He loosened his grip slightly but he was still gripping on to my neck.

"Toby I think maybe we should ease him into the idea of you getting married because this isn't working. Ow Adam seriously your hurting me."

Yvonne left and Toby took Adam from me so I could well Breathe.

"Hey buddy why don't I tell you a story?"
Toby walked off with Adam so I could have a break.

I went and sat with Emily and Alison for some food because I was starving.

"So Spence excited about Paris?"
"Of course I promise I'll send pictures."
"I think Em's tempted to follow you."

"Yeah I think that's her, she was only in college." I start to hear wispers  behind me. Em and Ali look behind me at the same time as I did.

There stood an older woman around 60ish talking to another 60 year old women.

"Excuse me?"
"Oh nothing dear we just can't get it around our heads Toby had a son with a girl in college."

The women reminded me of my old boss who had been nothing but stuck up until she retired.

"Yeah that's me do you have a problem with that?"
"I think it will be hard for my granddaughter, Yvonne to start a family with Toby when he already has a son in the way."
"In the way huh?"

Emily places her hand on my right shoulder.

"Spence calm down."
"No I will not calm down. Yes Adam clearly wasn't planned but he was the best mistake I ever made so if these two old bags can't get their heads around it their clearly not mature enough to handle it."

By this point I was fully on my feet and my arms were crossed.

"Disgraceful to think a girl like you has the nerve to say that. You were in college you had no right to have a son."

"Right that's it I've had enough of you."

Alison charged round the table and stood in front of me.

"That's not your place to say stuff like that. I'll have you know my bestfriend has done a fantastic job of raising Adam unlike your daughter did of raising your wicked step mother of a grandchild."

I had enough of it, and I could feel the tears Coming so I politely excuses myself while Alison continued to rip I to Yvonne's grandmother.

I walked outside and sat on the steps letting the tears fall. I was startled when someone tapped me on the shoulder.

Toby's POV

I was in the middle of a conversation with Yvonne's parents and Yvonne when Caleb tapped me on the shoulder.

"Toby I think Spence needs you."
"Caleb I'm sure she's fine."
Yvonne snapped, she may have apologised but she still doesn't like Spencer.

"What's up Caleb?"
"Yvonne's grandma just slagged her off about being in college when she had Adam."

Yvonne gave me a 'don't you dare' look but I payed no attention and followed Caleb outside to where he pointed to Spencer, who was crying while sitting on the steps.

I tapped her on the shoulder and she jumped.

"It's okay Spence it's just me."
"Oh thank God."
She stood up and hugged me tight while bailing her eyes out.

"What happened?"

"Yvonne's Grandma had ago at me saying Adam was going to cause problems for you and Yvonne and I had no right to have a child in college."

"Right that's it I'm talking to her." I let go and went to rip into Yvonne's grandma.

"No wait I don't want you to get into it with Yvonne's family. You're marrying her tomorrow."

"Yeah and you're leaving for Paris I'm not going to let your last night in Rosewood be like this."

I ran into the venue with Spencer not far behind looking for Yvonne and her grandma. I soon found them and I grabbed on to Spencer's hand pulling her forward, even though she was very reluctant to.

"Excuse me Yvonne, and Grandma."
"Toby you're back. Are you okay Spencer I heard we got a little too sensitive."

"Cut the crap Yvonne! Yes Spencer and I were in college when Adam was born, yes we weren't careful enough. But she is the best mother a child could ask for who cares if she was in college?!"

Yvonne and her grandma had shocked expressions plastered on their faces. I just walked away still holding on to Spencer and went to find Spencer's parents who I had hand Adam over to.

Well that will defiantly be a rehearsal for the books.
