I was woken up by my mom and dad kissing my face. I tried to act annoyed, but really couldn’t.
“It’s time to get up and get ready for school Hayden.” They said in unison. I nodded and rolled out of bed after they left. I pulled on white shorts and a black t-shirt. I pulled my hair up in a high ponytail and brushed on some mascara, before grabbing my backpack and going downstairs. Jason was sitting on the counter, eating cereal. I went over to him and opened my mouth, he put the spoon in my mouth and I went to get my own. I sat on the floor while we both ate. My mom came in the kitchen to get coffee and shook her head at me and Jason.
"There is a table right there guys.” She said, going to sit down at it, stirring her mug.
“We know.” We said in unison.
“This family is so weird.” My dad said, sitting next to my mom.
“So how am I getting to school?” I asked, putting the money from the counter in my backpack.
“You’re walking.” Jason said, slurping the milk in his bowl.
“What do you mean? I don’t even know where it is!” I said. He hopped off the counter and led me outside, turning me left.
“Go about 8-10 minutes that was, and I guarantee you, you’ll see it.” I groaned out. “Well get going Hay,” he said, shoving my lightly. I rolled my eyes, but kept walking alone. Pulling out my phone and headphones I turned my music on. Praying quietly in my head that this day turned out okay. It was a 10 minute walk and it stuck out in the open. I walked inside and found the front office. Inside there was a lady at the front desk, on the phone. She held up a finger at me, telling me she’d be one minute. I waited, and looked around. There was a girl sitting down. Her hair was a beautiful dark chocolate colour with a slight blonde showing, and her nose was pierced, suiting her face perfectly. I couldn’t see the colour of her eyes, but her skin was tan like mine, and she was wearing black shorts and a black tank top. She had a rose tattoo right under her right collarbone, only about the size of my palm. She had another one that wrapped around her upper right arm, looking like a snake of some sort. They suited her perfectly. The principal came out of his room and looked at her.
“Let’s go,” he said, talking to the girl and pointing in his office. She finally looked up at me and winked before going inside with him. The secretary finally got off the phone and called me over. She explained the routes of the school briefly, and then gave me a schedule. I looked down at it, art, English, biology and then gym. I sighed. The girl came out of the principals and walked over.
“Hello Mrs., new student?” She asked, looking me up and down.
“Yes, will you take her around the school? You have 3 out of the 4 classes with her.” The girl rolled her eyes and looked back at me, flashing a perfect smile.
“Anything for you Mrs.” She said, giggling slightly and linking her arm though mine. As we walked away, she laughed harder. “That principal is so stupid. Yells at me for drinking juice in the hallway. Such horseshit.” She said. I smiled, but only to be polite. This girl was quite strange. She looked me right in the eye. Brown eyes, almost the exact colour as her hair. They were full of life, showing how happy she was. “Are you ready?” She asked.
“For what?”
“Everyone is going to fuss over you. It’s gonna be great.” She said. She was right. Everyone kept looking at me, and smiling. A few guys even hollered at me, whistling as I walked by.
“So, what’s your name?” I asked her.
“Veronica. Do not ever call me that though. Call me Ronnie.” She said, smiling at me. “Don’t ask me why okay?” I nodded, intimidated slightly. “So what’s your name?”
“I’m Hayden.”
“Huh, that’s an okay name I guess. Okay, stop here and let me see your schedule.” I handed it over and she smiled. “All but Biology. Sweet. Oh, your locker is right here.” We went over and I opened it up, putting my things inside. Someone grabbed my waist making me spin around fast. A boy stood next to Ronnie, and they were laughing. He was cute, tall, tan, perfect smile, kind of loud laugh, but cute. “Hayden this is Sam. Sam this is Hayden.” He stuck out his strong hand, and I shook it.
“It’s nice to meet you. Really, and sorry about grabbing you.”
“Um it’s okay.” I said. Ronnie punched his arm and he smiled down at her.
“PETE!” Sam screamed over Ronnie. “Come over here!” I couldn’t see who he was talking too until he was right next to Ronnie. It was the boy from next door. He was eyeing me. “Peter, this is Hayden.” Sam said.
“Yeah, I know.” He said, but I could tell he didn’t care. “She lives next to me.” He said, Ronnie’s face lit up along with her eyes, I loved this girl already.
“No way! That’s so cool!”
“She also threw a rock at me.” He said, smirking.
“I didn’t mean to!” I said quickly but he put his hand up to silence me.
“Whatever I have to go find Kenzie. I’ll see you guys later.” He said, walking off. I sighed as he left, and the bell rang. I hurried up and followed Ronnie. First and second period couldn’t of past faster. It was finally lunch and I grabbed my money, going to the café alone. I bought pizza and a pop, and sat by myself, scrolling on Twitter. Two thumps made me look up. Ronnie and Sam.
“Hey, what a coincidence that you sat down at our table.” Ronnie said smiling. “Oh, and the pizza is okay, next time get the burrito.” I smiled. Peter walked up with a girl, his hand on her back. I was instantly jealous, even though he was such an ass to me. They both sat down, and the girl lit up looking at me.
“Oh my, who is this?” She asked.
“I’m Hayden, I’m new here.” She smiled, perfect teeth.
“Wow, can I just say, that you are super pretty.” I smiled a thanks, and she flipped her bleach blond hair over her shoulder. Definitely fake blond. It was quiet for a while. “Oh, how rude of me. I’m Mackenzie. Just call me Mac, or Kenzie, doesn’t matter to me.” She said. I nodded and looked over at Peter who was staring me down again. “What class do you have next?” Mackenzie asked.
“Oh, biology.” She lit up. This girl was way too happy. Ronnie being happy was different then this girl. Mackenzie just wanted everything to be about her.
“No way! Peter has it next too! Then what?”
“Gym.” I said quietly, looking at Peter. He didn’t look mad now.
“Peter has that too! That’s cool. Too bad I wasn’t with you guys.” She pouted. I nodded and finished my lunch getting up and going to my locker. Peter was following me and I spun around as he came right up to me.
“Don’t think that because we live next door to each other and that we have a couple classes together, doesn’t make up friends. Got it?”
“Whatever Peter. I’m sick of you being such a prick to me.” I said, wanting to cover my mouth or kick myself for saying such a thing to him. I was supposed to show him I was nicer then him, and here I am calling him a prick. He smiled though. Not the reaction I was looking for.
“Oh princess, you haven’t even seen me being a prick. This is me being nice. Leave me alone.” He snapped, walking away, leaving me standing with my jaw hanging open.
