Hayden’s POV

My birthday passed and I was happy my dad got to spend it with me. Peter wouldn’t let me go and I couldn’t be happier. Jason came over on my birthday, but left right after. I wanted to be mad at him for not staying near my dad, but I couldn’t bring myself to be. I walked downstairs Saturday morning and greeted my dad in the kitchen.

“Peter called and said he’ll be over any second.” I nodded and ate a banana quickly before drinking from the milk carton. My dad made a disgusted face but smiled at me after. “Are you going today?” He asked me. I had to go to the hospital today and get checked. I nodded and stood next to my dad.

“I love you.” I said. He kissed the top of my head and I held my tears back.

“I love you too. Go, I just saw Peter.” Just as he finished talking the front door opened and Peter popped his head in.

“Hello. You ready?” I nodded and grabbed my purse before going to Peter. He kissed my lips, making me tingle before he grabbed my hand and led me towards the car.

“Peter?” I said, pulling away at the car. He turned and looked at his watch.

“What is it? We have to go, you’ll be late.” I bit my lip.

“I was actually going to ask you if I could go alone.” His face fell and then he looked sort of angry.

            “Alone? Why?”

“Peter, I just..” I just don’t want to find out if I do have cancer and him be right there. “I just want to do it alone.”

            “Alone?” He repeated.

“Yes. Gosh, I don’t understand why you’re so angry.” His eyes opened wide as he stared at me.

            “Whatever, go. I don’t care.”

“Don’t say that. Don’t say something you’ll regret later.” I warned. He threw my dad’s keys at me and I caught them with one hand.

            “It’s not something I’ll regret. I don’t care.”

            “You’re a dick.” I snapped. He chuckled.

“There’s another thing I don’t care about.” I shook my head and started walking past him. He grabbed my upper arm and pulled me back before dipping his head down to me, kissing me calmly. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I love you.” He said against my lips, letting my arm go to grab my face. I kissed him back, but my arms stayed glued to my sides. “I love you. Please say it back.”

“I love you.” I whispered, pulling away from him and getting in the car alone without looking at him. I drove faster than I should’ve but I didn’t want to be late. I parked and ran inside.

“Hi, I’m Hayden Robinson and I’m here for a scan.” I said to the man behind the desk. He was cute. Not that it mattered. He smiled and typed my name in the computer before directing me to floor 5 room 6. I thanked him and went upstairs. After an hour of tests they came in the room. She smiled at me and then sat down in front of me and smiled again.

“You’re all clear. Everything is good, your lungs and organs are strong and you have nothing to worry about for now.”

“For now?” I asked, my hands began to sweat.
