I spent the night in my room, thinking about Peter and I, and the sweet words he said to me. Sighing I got out of bed at 10 to get a late night snack.
“Stop it Jason,” a girl said, giggling after. Jason brought her here? But where were my parents? Did they know? I stopped outside of his room and listened against the closed door. Knocking, I waited patiently. He opened the door a few seconds later, smiling like a 5 year old on Christmas.
“Jason, hey. Where’s mom and dad?” I asked, trying to peek over his shoulder, but he was too tall.
“Out, why?” He asked. I heard the bed squeak, signalling her getting off the bed, and her soft footsteps. She stood next to Jason. My jaw dropped when I saw who it was, and she smiled.
“Danielle?” I asked, and she nodded, pulling me in for a hug. What the hell was she doing here? “What are you doing here?” I asked her.
“She’s the one I told you about Hay,” Jason said, pulling Danielle away from me.
“But.. but she works at a pizza place..” I said confused. Danielle smiled.
“Yeah, I go to the college, I work at a bar too.” She looked up at Jason with those love eyes. I wanted to throw up and scream. How did she know Peter? I forgot to ask him, I was too busy telling him he was beautiful.
“Get lost Hay,” Jason said, clearly annoyed with my presence.
“When is mom and dad coming back Jason?!” I screamed as he shut the door in my face. Sighing I went downstairs. It was dark and abandoned. I left the lights off, the lightning lit up the whole house anyways. I jumped on the counter with the cereal box of Coco Puffs and ate. The shrill of my phone made me throw a handful of Puffs into the air. I pulled it out of my pocket and answered.
“Hello?” I asked, shoving a handful of the yummy cereal in my mouth and chomped loudly, not caring.
“Wow, you sound great.” Peter said, laughing. “What could you possibly be eating that is that loud?”
“Coco Puffs,” I said, throwing some into the air and trying to catch them in my mouth. Ronnie was the best at this, she taught me to just keep my eye on it.
“Wow.” He said again making me smile at nothing. A loud thunder broke me from my smile, this storm was getting pretty bad. “You still there?”
“Yes,” I said, barely able to find my voice. Looking out the back door over the water I saw the dark clouds. “I don’t like this storm.” He sighed over the phone.
“Me either.”
“Peter, I need to tell you something.” I said, thinking of Danielle. I need to know who she is. Before letting him speak I blurted. “Look, Danielle and Jason, Jason my brother, they’re dating. She’s upstairs, and I know it’s none of my business but I want to know how you know her. I’m sorry, don’t be mad at me, I just can’t help but be curious-”
“Hayden, shut up for a second!” I held my breath and waited. “Hurry up to your room,” he said, before ending the call. Grabbing the Coco Puffs I ran up the stairs and into my room. He was standing at the balcony door, waiting for me to unlock it. Dropping the cereal, I rushed over and opened it, he tumbled in and I had to steady him. He looked down at me, water dripping off him onto me.
