I was all alone in third, unless you count Peter. I sat in the back in the only empty seat. Peter was 2 seats up and 1 over. Thank god the teacher didn’t introduce me. I already learned what we were learning, so it was easy enough.

“Okay class, we have a partner project.” The teacher said. Kids instantly started hollering, screaming names of who they wanted to pair up with. While everyone was screaming I looked up to Peter, and was surprised when he was already looking. I was going to smile, but decided against it. He wanted to be an asshole, so could I. I put my hand up shot him the middle finger. I thought I saw him smiling when he turned away.

“Shut up! I’m picking partners.” Groans filled the classroom, and I silently prayed to be paired up with Peter. I just wanted to know why he had such a problem with me. “Peter and Kane.” I silently swore in my head. “Hayden and Jacob.” After that I stopped listening. When she was done a boy came up to me. I’m assuming Jacob. He was mixed, and had gray eyes.

“Hi, I’m Jacob.” I smiled, he was cute and built nicely. He shook my hand.

“I’m Hayden.” I said, still holding his hand.

“I know.” I smiled and he did too. Finally I let his hand go. “The bell is going to go soon, but where do you want to meet up to do this?”

“We can go to my house.” I said. He smiled again.

“Sure.” I pulled out a piece of paper and wrote my address and my cell number. “Thanks,” he said, taking it. His fingers grazed mine and my heart jumped. I smiled and could feel myself blushing. He smiled, looking at my warming cheeks. The bell went and I grabbed my things, looking up Peter was eyeing Jacob. Or maybe he was eyeing my, I couldn’t tell. I flashed him a smile before walking out. I passed Jacob when I was going to my locker and flashed him a smile also, but a real one this time.

When I got to the gym, Mrs. Morgan shoved a gym shirt at me.

“You’re Hayden right?” She asked. I nodded and she smiled. “Welcome.” She turned to the class and waited. I could see Peter talking to Jacob and Sam. Ronnie ran up to me and bumped me with her hip. I smiled. “We’re going outside! 4 laps around, then we’re playing soccer. No whining I mean it!” Mrs. Morgan screamed, surprising me when everyone shut up and didn’t make a sound. Everyone nodded and I followed them out. I jogged all the laps, and finished first out of the girls. Mrs. Morgan patted me on the back.

“You should try out for track, we started a few days ago, but you’re welcome to come.” I nodded and went inside, walking around looking for a fountain. When I turned the corner I found one. I went to it and drank. I felt someone come up behind me and before I knew it, they dunked my head in the water, causing it to go up my nose. I started to choke on the water as I slid under their hand and slid to the floor. Looking up, I expected it to be Peter, but it wasn’t. There was no one there. I panicked. Peter turned the corner and stared at me like I was crazy. I stopped coughing and wiped my nose and mouth, surprised when I was thankful to see him.

“Why are you on the floor?” He asked. “Actually don’t answer that, I don’t care.” He said, his shirt was a little sweaty on the front, but he wasn’t out of breath from the jog. His muscles showed nicely in the shirt he was wearing. “So you and Jacob huh?” He asked changing the subject, except now he looked mad.

“There is no me and Jacob. We have a project. Jealous Peter?” I asked, finally standing up and wiping my butt.

“Don’t worry about that princess.” He said smirking at me touching my butt. I stopped immediately.
