Jacob’s POV

            I sat on the beach with my arm around Mackenzie. Even though I lost Peter as a friend, I didn’t regret being with Kenzie behind his back. The sand was warm on my feet and the sun was hot on my skin. Ronnie and Sam were splashing each other in the water and Peter and Hayden weren’t here, if they were even going to show up. I know Hayden wouldn’t show up without him, and he didn’t want to be here. We didn’t go far, it was 10 minutes south of our school at the local beach. It was a Monday so there wasn’t anyone around. I looked back at Sam, he’s been better since he stopped doing the drugs. Paul called me yesterday and said Peter paid us off but I was always welcome and he wanted to talk to Sam and I as adults in a couple days. I had hung up and not answered him because I wasn’t sure what I would do. I would have to talk to Sam about it when Ronnie wasn’t around. Kenzie knew the briefs of it, that I was smoking weed but not about the pills, she’d leave me before I could snap my fingers.

            “Hey,” an angelic voice said behind me and instantly I knew it was Hayden. She sat down next to Kenzie and we both stared at her, she was alone.

            “Hey Hayden, where’s Pete?” Kenzie asked before I could. Hayden rolled her eyes annoyed.

            “He didn’t come, we fought about it yesterday so I doubt he’ll be here.”

            “He’ll show up.” I said feeling sort of bad that she was alone. I liked dating her, she was always so calm and collected but that was also the bad thing about her.

            “Right.” She said, smiling and waving at Ronnie and Sam. Ronnie waved back and that was when Sam collided with her, they both fell and went under. Popping up laughing we all laughed along. Kenzie and Hayden were small talking and it was actually weird and nice seeing them talk. I turned behind me to look at everyone when I saw Peter, he was walking shirtless and in a bathing suit holding his keys in his hands.

            “Pst, Hayden.” I said interrupting them. She looked up and her eyes began to water as she got up and ran at him. He stopped and reached his arms out for her while she proceeded to jump on him, his arms snaked around her while her legs wrapped around him. He was whispering in her ear and she nodded. When he put her down he grabbed her face and started to kiss her but that was when I looked away. Kenzie leaned into me and Ronnie ran up the beach with Sam. They broke up the kiss and Ronnie stole Hayden.

            “You too Kenzie, come on.” Ronnie said, Kenzie’s smile perked as high as I’ve seen it all day and she kissed my cheek before running after them. I stood up and reached my hand out to Peter. He eyed me for a second before his hand slid in mine and I shook it.

            “Thanks Pete, for paying it off.” I said. He gripped my hand tighter and pulled me a little closer. Sam stood next to Peter and I felt ganged up on.

            “It’s the first and last time I’ll do it,” he snapped. I nodded and smiled.

            “Yeah.” Sam said.

            “Shut up Sam, this doesn’t involve you.” I said pulling my hand from Peters. Bad move, Sam shoved at my chest.

            “Pete go in the water, keep the girls there.” Sam said. Peter put his hand on Sams shoulder but he shrugged it off. “Don’t Peter.” He ran into the water where the girls were and then shoved me again, this time hard enough I had to step back once to steady myself. I shoved him back. We were the same size, I wasn’t afraid of Sam.
