Carlisle had ran the entire way to the hospital, his only thought was to comfort his mate.

Once he entered the building, he slowed down slightly, just enough to where it looked like he was running through the halls as a human.

The moment he entered the hospital, he had heard her cries of distress, but something sounded off.

Entering her room, Carlisle moved to her side as nurses filed in behind him. "Colette!" He said loudly, not quite a yell, but close as he held her to his chest. Her whimpers and screams seemed to slow as she awoke from the night terror.

Unfortunately that seemed to only be half of the battle as Cole tried to take a deep breath, but a gurgling sound came out instead of a steady stream of air. Coughing ensued and soon, her hands and the surrounding white bedding was covered in a speckled pattern of crimson.

Carlisle's eyes widened as he realized what was wrong. Her lungs were filling with blood. Fixing an oxygen mask on her he yelled out for others to join him. Carlisle held his ear to her chest as he could hear the slosh of liquid in her lungs.

"Carlisle?" Colette asked as she looked at him with genuine fear in her eyes. This was not how she wanted to die but the lack of oxygen filtrating in her lungs was making her world grow darker and darker. "It's okay. You going to be okay." He fretted, his voice giving away how scared he was for her. "I don't want to die." She told him quietly. "You won't. I promise." He told her as another yell rang from his lips.

The doctor on call ran in and Carlisle explained what was happening and the procedures she needed.

"Carlisle, putting her under for this procedure is not a good idea. She won't make it out of the medication, let alone off the table." The other doctor told him, but Carlisle was animate this was her only chance.

As the nurses rushed her off to the OR, Carlisle sighed as he heard her heart beating strong. He knew there was a chance she wouldn't make it off the table but if there was a chance, just a chance that she would, he was willing to risk it.

Pulling out his phone he scrolled down, hitting the contact.

"Hello?" A groggy voice of Charlie answered. "Hello Charlie, this is Carlisle. I'm sorry to inform you that Colette has taken a turn for the worse. She has been brought into surgery, she is bleeding in her lungs. They had to put her in a medically induced coma." "We will be up in a few minutes." Charlie told the doctor and ended the call.

Carlisle sat in her room, closing his eyes and folded his hands, and for the first time in a while he prayed. He asked god to give her a fighting chance, to come back to him.

Carlisle paced the hallways of the OR waiting for any type of information. He could hear them working on her, and fortunately the strong beat of her heart, not stuttering one bit.

Carlisle was found by the Chief of police, his daughter following right behind. "What's happening? Is she okay?" Charlie asked the doctor as her rubbed his face, stress showing on the older man's face.

"She's still in the OR. They are having to place a chest tube in her lung, then monitor her. Most people who experience bleeding in the lungs usually are also suffering from heart failure. Her heart has been monitored, so I don't think it is that, but we can't rule it out. She is in a critical state right now." Carlisle informed him.

"Is she going to live?" Bella asked, silent tears streaming down her face. "I can't give you a definitive answer. I don't know. We will try our best to extend her life as we can." Carlisle told his sons mate, his heart clenching at the girls broken look.

Looking down the hall, he saw the nurse from the intensive care unit walked towards them. "Carrie." The nurse smiled at Carlisle, sending small smiles to the two who were with the doctor. "Hello, I'm Carrie. I'm going to be one of the nurses that is taking care of Colette." She told Charlie as he shook her hand. "We are going to take the best care of her. We want her to get better as fast as she can." She announced and the two smiled at the nurse, her upbeat tone shedding a small amount of light on the grim situation.

"Carrie is going to show you where Cole will be placed and she should be out in a hour tops." Carlisle told the pair as Charlie nodded. "Thank you." He said as they followed the nurse back town the hall.

A grueling forty-five minutes later, Colette was wheeled out of the OR, wires, tubes, and two IV poles following behind her, as they carried the medication that kept her sedated. Carlisle followed behind the doctors, specifically the one who told him her chance of getting off the table was nonexistent.

As they got Cole situated in her room, the on call doctor, turned to face Carlisle. "I don't know how you knew she would survive that, but I'm glad you had faith." "You don't know her as well as I do. She has too much to live for." Carlisle told the fellow doctor and he smiled. "As long as you keep that thinking I think she will be fine." The fellow doctor said, patting Carlisle on the arm.

Doctors slowly trickled out of the room, leaving only nurses, the family, and Colette herself.

Colette looked like she was in some type of syfy movie to Bella. She was terrified as it looked like a machine was even breathing for her. Her aunt was tilted on a wedge, keeping her good lung slightly above the other so it could drain properly.

Wires of every shape, color, and size were attached to her. From head to toe it seemed like every single inch of her body was being monitored.

Carrie had some back into the room. A smile on her face as she had good news for the family. "Charlie, Bella, I do have good news. They kept a monitor on her that acts like an EKG. She does not have any symptoms of heart failure. It's just a waiting game now. We wait until her lung drains, and then we pull her out of the coma. Colette is a very strong woman." She smiled as a sense of relief was felt by the pair.

Bella sat down by her father, her eyes fixated on her aunt, hoping that she would come back from this. She had to. Bella needed her.
