28. Conditional Sentence

Holaaa....

Eeeh, materinya udah lumayan banyak ternyata. Hoho

Bab ini akan ngajakin kita berandai-andai, berhayal kemana-mana. Tapiiii....berhayal disini ada ketentuannya loh, gak boleh sembarangan :D

Conditional Sentence

Conditional Sentence disebut juga dengan kalimat pengandaian. Ada 3 tipe conditional sentence, yaitu:

Type I: real in the present/ future

Pola

a. If Simple Present, Simple Future atau Simple Future if Simple Present

Pola ini digunakan untuk menyatakan kemungkinan terwujudnya keinginan/ harapan dengan syarat 'if clause' nya terpenuhi.

e.g.:

- If the weather is nice tomorrow, we will go on picnic.

- If you study hard, you will pass the exam.

- I will give you a gift if you get the best score.

Note: 'will' dalam Simple Future dapat diganti dengan modal auxiliary yang lainnya, antara lain:

1. possibility (kemungkinan): may/ might

e.g.: If I don't get a scholarship, I might get a job instead of going to graduate school next fall.

2. permission (boleh): may/ can

e.g.: If your documents are in order, you may/can leave at once.

3. ability (bisa/ mampu): can

e.g.: If it stops raining, we can go out.

4. command, request & advisability (perintah, permintaan & saran): could, would, must, should, etc.

e.g.:

- If you see Ann, could you ask her to phone me?

- If you want to get the best score, you must study hard.

b. If Simple Present, Simple Present atau Simple Present if Simple Present

Pola ini digunakan untuk menyatakan kebenaran umum (general truth) dan kebiasaan (habitual activity)

e.g.:

- Water freezes if the temperature goes below 0°C.

- Ann always answers the phone if she is in her office.

Type II: unreal (contrary to fact) in the present/ future

Menyatakan kemungkinan yang sangat kecil atau bahkan tidak dapat terwujud saat ini.

Gampangnya nih, buat bantuin menghafal, ingat aja kalau Type II ini isinya khayalan tingkat tinggi. Mau ngegombal juga bisa pake tipe ini. misal nih: Seandainya aku superman, aku akan selalu menjagamu. Nah, faktanya kan si 'aku' bukan superman

Pola: If Simple Past, Past Future atau Past Future if Simple Past

Fact: Simpe Present

Note:

a. Pada kalimat nominal, semua subject baik singular ataupun plural menggunakan 'were'
