"Zek? ZEK!" A voice said snapping me out of my daze. I look to my right to see Willow looking up at me her eyes laced with worry.
"I'm sorry Will. What did you say?" I said.
"You keep doing that! I'm worried."
"Keep doing what?"
" Dazing off! Are you ok?" I sighed. Today is the eighth year anniversary of my mother's death and my father's arrest. Willow was to young to remember and I never told her anything but when she was younger she used to have nightmares about it.
"I'm sorry." I said ruffling her silky brown hair. "I was just lost in thought."
"Hey! Watch the hair." She whined. The sun shined on our faces as we walked home from school. Soon Ms. Violet's house came into view. Ms. Violet's is our foster mother, she has a real gentle and sweet heart, she really is like our real mother. Willow ran to the porch as Ms. Violet opened the door.
"Hi Ms. Violet!" She said.
"Hi Willow, how was your day?"
"It was great! I was the only person in my class who made an A on my history quiz!" she said proudly.
"Where's Caleb?" she asked. Caleb is her six month old son.
"He's napping. Now go inside and get started on your homework. I put out cookies for you and lemonade's in the fridge." Willow didn't hesitate to go inside.
"How are you? I know today's been hard for you."
"I'm fine, just the memories drag me down."
"I'm here, ya' know." I nodded.
"Today, some called, they wanted to adopt Willow." My breath hitched. She knows how I feel about that subject.
"Don't worry, I declined." She said.
"In six months I turn eighteen and then I can get a full time job and find a place for Willow and I to-"
"I know, take all the time you need." There was a cry in the house and Ms. Violet let out a tired chuckle.
"There's my cue. Come inside, it's getting cold." she said. I follow her inside and see Willow holding a sobbing Caleb.
"He won't stop."
"That's because he's hungry. Would you like to help me feed him?"
"Yeah." They go into the kitchen when there was a knock on the door. I answered it and it was my friend, Jackson.
"Hey Jack!" I said.
"Ready to go?" I tilted my head in confusion.
"Go? Go where?"
"We talked about this earlier today! We were going to go to the movies today remember! To see the new horror movie!"
"Oh. Sorry man I wasn't listening to a word you said." I said. "I'll ask Ms. Violet and see if I can go." I walk over to the nursery to see Ms. Violet supervising Willow as she fed Caleb.
"Can I go to the movies with Jackson?"
"Sure." She said. "As long as you're home by nine."
"Can I go?" Willow asked giving me her famous puppy dog eyes.
"Sorry, we are going to see a horror movie and I don't want you get nightmares."
"I won't get nightmares. I'm a big girl now."
"I know but you still too little." She puffed up her cheeks and glared at me.
"I'll take you next, ok."
"Ok." she said glumly. I reached into my pocket and gave her a five dollar bill. Her eyes lit up.
"Thank you!" She smiled.
"So are we going or not?" I heard Jackson cry from a distance.
"Yeah, I'm coming." I left the nursery and walked to the living room and joined Jackson.
"Let's roll out."
***************
The movie we saw was Terror of the Werewolf. It was about how humans had to defend themselves from the werewolves that were killing them. In the end the banished them in a hidden cave and were never seen again. It was a really lame movie to me, but Jackson was clutching onto his seat the whole time.
"That was the worst movie I have ever seen." I said.
"Maybe this will change your tune. Did you know it was based off of a true story?" I laughed.
"So you're telling me, that you believe that, that actually happened? Psh, you are more gullible than I thought." I said.
"Yeah, you're laughing now, but what until a werewolf get's ya. "
"Yeah ri-" Then I ran into someone and I screamed and jumped back. Jack laughed at me as I turned my attention on who I ran into.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention." The female stood up and dusted herself off.
"It's okay." She said. "I wasn't really looking either."
"Whoa." Jack said making me smack him on his chest. She laughed.
"Well, since you are here. I was wondering if you would like to-" Jack started but she cut him off.
"Sorry, I already have a m-boyfriend." She said.
"We actually need to talk to you, Ezekiel."
"How do you know my name." She didn't say anything, she reached in her purse and she handed a card.
"Meet us here."
"Us? What do you mean us?"
"My friends and I." I looked down and I saw the address on the card. It was at the park right across from my school. Underneath the address was a name. Lucy.
"Wh-" When I looked up she was gone.
"Whoa." Jack said again.
"Should I go?" I asked him.
"She was totally into me." He said giving me a dazed look. I smacked him again.
"Come on I gotta get home."
*********
"Zek!" Willow said as she hugged me.
"How was the movie?"
"Boring." I said. She chuckled.
"I met a girl though, she wants me to meet her friends tomorrow."
"That's so cool. You made a new friend."
"Yeah." I looked at the card and sighed. Looks like I'm going to be going to the park tomorrow.
