Chapter 10

Katelyn.
Aph and everyone else was waiting for me when I got back. "Where were you," Aphmau asked? "I uh was at a motel. -I looked at Kawaii-Chan- We got robbed." "Kawaii-Chan figured that. Are you okay Katelyn~sama? You looked pretty bruised up," Kawaii-Chan asked? "Yeah I'm fine," I answered. I felt both Dante's and Gene's eyes bore into my back. The amulet was hanging around my neck. And I knew it was a matter of time before Gene recognizes it. Until then I'll play it cool. "Did you see the robber," dad asked mad? "No. I wasn't there when they came. I was coming back from an interview," I lie. "Well until this is all cleared up you'll stay with us, Katelyn! We can have slumber parties and shopping trips," Aph says excitedly. Her eyes lighting up. "Thanks but I'll have to pass Aph. I want to fix up the house," I say. Just then Dante walked up to me and smiled. "I'm glad you're okay Katelyn." "Thanks." "Keep out of trouble and stay safe." His eyes locked onto the amulet. "Will do." I gave him a look that said we'll talk later. There was a slight nod of his head before he left. It took a while to renovate the place. But I got it fixed how it was.
Dante.
Katelyn met me in the park. "What happened," I asked as I looked around. "Gene happened," Katelyn hissed. "Why do you have (Y/n)'s amulet?" That was a big shocker. (Y/n) never to her amulet off for anybody. Not even me. The girl harnessed the amulet and protected it at all costs. It was something rare (Y/n) had stolen from the base. It was something Gene also wanted back. I wonder what made Katelyn so different. "(Y/n) gave it to me. In a haste. I don't know where she is right now. Or is she's safe," Katelyn answers. "Gene didn't get a hold of her just yet. He would have been smiling like an idiot today," I explain. I sigh and run a hand through my hair. "Listen just keep the amulet safe. Don't let it out your sight." "I won't."
Katelyn.
It has been nearly a month since the previous incident. I wonder how many previous incidents I'm going to have with all this. I haven't seen (Y/n) since. I was just walking the park with Aph when a wolf came up to us. Its eyes faded. Those white eyes and that (f/c) coat. Her lips sneered upwards. But it was quickly turned to discomfort as she sat. I fought the urge to laugh. Never had I seen (Y/n) so... What's the word? Uncomfortable. (Y/n) knew how to assess every situation that was thrown at us. But her people skills are just awful. "Look it's a wolf! Awe it's so cute," Aph squeals! She goes to pet (Y/n) but (Y/n) growled at her. Her eyes glowed white. Aphmau backed away. "Katelyn help me!" I shrug not going closer. "I don't do werewolves," I say. "Fine. I'm going to go get Aaron!" Aph runs off. I give Archer her necklace. "Irene I couldn't stand that form." "Your people skills are bad," I say laughing. "Oh shut it Blue. For your information, I'm a killing machine," (Y/n) scrowls. "You don't have to tell me twice." "Did you run into Gene anymore? Did he do anything," (Y/n) asked in a low voice? Her ears and tails were hidden. But her fingers were twitching. "No Gene didn't try to do anything to me. I'm fine. Thanks for caring," I say my face turning red. "You okay Blue?" "Y-yeah." My heart was racing in my chest. There were butterflies in my stomach. "Hmm. Well while we're at it, it's your turn to teach. You wanna do a lesson," (Y/n) asked? "Sure." We walked to our little spot. I didn't really think of what to teach. I was worried if (Y/n) was coming back. "Let's go to a clearing. I have nothing to teach and I want to look at the clouds," I say. Again there was a twitch of her mouth. Like she wanted to smile but just couldn't. We walked to an open field and laid down. (Y/n) seemed to relax as soon as her back hit the ground. The silence now isn't awkward or heavy with tension. "If you were an animal what would you be," (Y/n) asked softly? I had to think about it. Any animal? That's a lot to choose from. "I will be a mermaid," I say. "That's not an animal Blue," (Y/n) says. "Yeah, it is. And I like mermaids. I'll be a princess." Even to myself, I sounded silly. But something told me (Y/n) wouldn't mind.

I close my eyes. Breathing in the sharp winter air. We shouldn't be lying on the cold ground. But it felt right now. It was a rare sunny day for winter. So I rather just soak it all in. It felt rather calming besides Katelyn. Everything else melted away. Right now we were in a sleepy conversation. Just talking about silly things. I never looked directly at her. More at the sky. But still, this felt right. I got to know Katelyn as a person more. She said she was frightened of werewolves because of something that happened with her brother. But I made her feel okay. That made me smile to myself. Now it was just random facts that I wanted her to know. What's my favorite color. What's my favorite food. Stuff like that. The fluttery feeling is there again. I don't want it to leave right now. I don't know what it means. But for right now I like it. I like the warmth in my chest and the satisfying fact of her with me.
