Forever and Always

{Y/N's POV}
"Please com as soon as possible," the voice said. I hung up the phone and raced into my car. I turned on the engine and reversed out of the driveway, thinking back to last June.

"Y/N," Shawn said. I looked up from eating my ice cream to see Shawn kneeled on one knee. I gasped and dropped my ice cream, but I didn't care.

"Shawn..." I whispered. He smiled and bit his bottom lip, reaching into his pocket.

"I want to be sure that we'll never be separated, no matter what. I also want you to be mine forever and always. I want to grow old with you, and- and have kids with you. And I want a summer wedding, or whatever you want-" I laughed as tears welled up in my eyes. "-what I'm trying to say is, Y/N Y/L/N. Will you marry me?" I held my hands over my mouth and tackled Shawn in a hug, both of us falling onto the picnic blanket underneath us.

"So is that a yes?" Shawn asked. I cupped his cheeks and leaned down to kiss him.

"It's a huge yes," I said before kissing him softly.

My eyes watered as I blinked away the tears, making sure I get there fast but safely.

"Shawn Mendes," I said out of breath. The receptionist typed something in her keyboard before turning back to me.

"Room 208. Just up that corridor is the elevator," she smiled. I thanked her before running round the corner.

Room 204, room 206, room 208.

I took in a deep breath before lifting my hand up to knock. Before I made contact with the door, it was opened by a doctor. He smiled sadly

"You must be Y/N. I'm sorry for having to call you so late, but we really needed you here." He stepped aside to let me in. I rushed over to his bed and saw him smile weakly.

"Hey, fiancé," He said. Me and Shawn had always called each other this after getting engaged.

"Baby, what happened?" I asked. The doctor walked over with a clipboard as I held Shawn's hand in mine.

"Shawn had a very severe heart attack. The left artery was blocked, meaning oxygen could no longer reach his heart. We aren't completely sure what caused this, but we believe that Shawn had a panic attack which put him in a lot of shock. At least, that's all we could go by since Shawn didn't remember anything and his manager walked in on him panicking." He explained. I didn't listen after that, I just brought Shawn's hand to my lips and kissed his knuckles over and over again.

"We'll leave you two alone," he said before he exited the room with a couple of nurses.

"Shawn," I cried. I wiped my eyes as shawn looked at me with confusion.

"Come on, darling. Don't be upset, I'm here now, right?" He asked. I laughed softly at his optimism in a moment like this.

"I love you so much, Shawn." I said.

"I'm so sorry," Shawn said randomly. He covered his face with his hands as he cried into them.

"What for, baby?" I asked and ran my hand through his hair.

"We were going to have kids, a-and live in Florida with two children, Audrey and Thomas Mendes-"

"Shawn, don't worry about all of that. I'm fine," I said.

"What about the wedding?" He asked, his lip trembling. "You wanted an outside wedding in San Francisco on the beach. We won't be able to do that anymore, and it's all my fault." He said, letting out a loud sob. I sighed before standing up.

"Wait here a second." I said before exiting his room.

I walked back into his room with a bag in my hand. Shawn looked at me then at the bag.

"Hold Your hand out." I said. He obliged as I brought out a silver ring from a store down the road.

"Shawn Peter Raul Mendes. I promise that I will always love you, through whatever we go through. No matter what the future holds for us, good or bad, I can swear that I will not give up on this, you've helped me through everything and I can't imagine a world without you," he wiped my tears as I continued. "I want to grow old with you, I want to support you through everything. I'll love you, forever and always," I spoke. Shawn had tears running down his face as he grabbed the other ring.

"Y/N Y/L/N. I'll always be with you, I'll always love you. It would've been great to start a new life with you, and I guess that's what we're doing right now. Please don't be upset, love. I love you so much. If I could I would help you through your bad days and celebrate your good days. I'll always love you, Y/N. Please remember that," he said while wiping his eyes. I leaned in and crashed my lips against his. After a few moments, we pulled away. He looked at me and smiled as his heart monitor began to slow down. I grabbed his hands on mine and shook my head.

"Please don't leave me, Shawn." I whispered. He opened his mouth to speak, his voice low and raspy.

"I'll love you forever and always. Please just remember even if I'm not there, I'll always love you, don't let me hold you back, baby," He said before closing his eyes. The doctors rushed in and did everything they could. I just let them do what they had to do, Shawn was gone, I had to accept that.
