{Shawns POV}

I observed her facial features carefully. The way her eyes had light bags underneath them from lack of sleep. And how her hair was up in a neat, but loose, bun placed perfectly on the top of her head. And the way she was fiddling with her fingers in her lap, twisting the ring around her middle finger.

I watched in silence as she softly wiped her eyes, sniffling slightly. I couldn't help but smile when she would quietly hiccup to herself. Or when she would sometimes bring her fingers up to her lips, biting gently on her fingernails.

I softly smiled at her - a quiet chuckle escaping from my lips.

"Why are you laughing?" She snapped. Her face reddened slightly as her eyebrows furrowed.

"I wish I could thank him." I said truthfully. My voice was no louder than a whisper, but I knew she could hear me perfectly.

"You want to thank him?" She asked in pure disgust and confusion. I instantly nodded, beginning to explain my statement.

"I want to thank him for hurting you, and for letting you go." I clarified. I shuffled closer to her so I was sat opposite her on the couch. "I want to tell him I'm glad he made all those shitty mistakes. I'm glad he broke your heart." I spoke. She looked up at me and I could tell she was still confused.

"He was a prick, why would you thank him?" She asked. I smiled down at her and shook my head.

"Because otherwise, you'd be with him right now, not me." I began. Her body looked a lot more relaxed as she smiled sadly. "Ever heard of the saying, somebody's loss is another's gain?" I asked her. Her smile widened as she nodded.

I gently wrapped my arms around her as she rested her head on my shoulder. She took a deep breath and sighed deeply. I tightened my grip slightly and leaned closer to her ear.

"He's fucking stupid for letting you go," I whispered. I watched as a soft red danced on her cheeks and smiled down at her. "But I'm happy I did," I told her, kissing her on the forehead. She pulled away from my grip and looked up at me.

"Thank you, Shawn." She said quietly, holding my face in her hands. I grinned widely as she kissed me softly on the lips, going back to her previous position with her head on my shoulder.

Listening to her talk about somebody so passionately and full of hatred broke my heart. How could someone let a girl like this go? I can't imagine how hard he must be to please. As fucked up as it sounds, I would love to thank the man that broke her. It allowed me to come and take his place, healing her in the process.

Thank you to the one who let her get away.
