She crossed her arms over her chest, attempting to keep herself warm from the frosty air. She walked the familiar, yet unrecognisable, streets.

She remembered the summer days where they would walk hand in hand, simply enjoying each other's company. They would walk into whichever store appealed to them, it was their own little game. She would pick a store, then him, and so on.

She then remembered the Autumn mornings where they would go get breakfast. They would enter the same cafe every morning. She recalls their orders; two coffees. One black, one with milk. She reminded herself to go in there sometime soon. It had been a few months, and she missed the scent of cakes and coffee.

But she then remembered the cold, lonely winter walks. She would go out to clear her head, but it never worked. Her head was too full for that.

She continued walking when she heard a voice calling her. She turned to see him running towards her. His cheeks were slightly rosy from the cold and he smiled.

"It really is you," he said, breathing heavily. She nodded and chuckled.

"It is. And it's you," she grinned. "When did you get back?" She asked.

"Last week." He replied. "How have you been?"

"I've been good, and you?" She returned.

"Great, thank you. Would you, um, like to get a coffee some time?" He asked her. "Have a good catch up, eh?" He smiled.

"I'd love to. But as friends, okay?" She said. "That's what we are now. You made the decision when you left, and everything has changed now. It's different." His face dropped slightly as he nodded.

He understood her reasonings. He left her all alone with little to know explanation. He was honestly surprised she even wanted to speak to him.

"As friends."
