["You can call anyone you want." One of the staff said to me while handing me my phone.
I decided to call my brother as he was the one who supported me the most when I chose to apply for the program.
"Who is it?" My brother asked in English. He had been living in Australia for around three years so I guessed he wasn't used to picking up the phone in Chinese anymore.
"Donghai, It's Lin," I said.
"Lin?" My brother then asked. "How have you been? How's Idol Producer? Are they treating you well?" He asked.
"I'm okay, don't worry. I'm enjoying this so far. I have managed to make it to A rank again."I answered. "Are you watching the program?"
"Of course I am watching it! I need to talk to those boys, though. Especially that one... How was he called? Fan Bingbing's brother!" He said.
"Oh, you mean Chengcheng. Why would you want to talk to him?" I wondered.
"That mate is getting way to close to my sister!" He said in English.
"Oh come on! We're just friends! Am I not allowed to make friends in here? Are you serious?"
"Fair dinkum (That's right), you can't become close with so many boys!" He said, his Australian slang popping through.
"I've got to leave. Can you call mum and dad? I wasted my only call with you." I asked him.
"Wasted?!" He said and I laughed. "I was going to call them later in the arvo (Afternoon), so I will. Tell Jackson I said hello." He said and ended the call.
"Aren't you Chinese? Why did you two speak in English?" One of the staff asked.
"Oh, my brother and I used to study English by watching tv shows and most of them were Australian so we eventually picked up some of the slang too. He is now living in Australia." I explained.
]"We are now going to select Idol Producer's first Centre," PD announced. The centre position for the theme song. "To put it in layman terms, the person who stands in the centre. And if you stand in the centre, you will be easily seen by others at first glance. All of A rank will be candidates for the centre position. Prepare a solo performance suitable for the theme song and according to this performance the trainees in B, C, D and F ranks will vote. You will have one hour to prepare. In one hour we will be selecting the centre position for the theme song."
The rest of the trainees then started to yell "Jiayou!" to us and I saw some trainees wishing Xukun or the Yehua boys good luck. I felt a little sad when I saw that not even Ziyi was wishing me good luck but, instead, he wished it to Xukun.
I looked down and meet glances with Chengcheng.
"Jiayou, Linlin!" He mouthed and I smiled.
I guess someone was actually cheering for me.
We then went to the practice room and started to create our performance. I simply put my headphones on and improvised. Fifteen minutes later, I already had a vague idea of what I would do.
A few minutes later, some of the boys came in to cheer on their friends. Justin came in, wished me good luck and quickly went to Zhengting. I had no harsh feelings as they were company mates and it was obvious that they would be cheering for each other. They advised him to do somersaults which I completely agreed with. Sure, we were going against each other, but I also wanted to compete with hard opponents.
I approached Kunkun who had sat down for a while.
"Sucks to not be from a company, right?" I said sitting next to him. "Well, at least you have people cheering on you."
"You have people cheering for you too!" He said looking at me.
"But you know it's not the same. I know you heard all of the comments some of the boys made in the dorms and when I got to A rank. They think I'm only making it because I am a girl." I said sighing.
["I didn't know Lin doubted so much of her capacities!" Sais Xukun to the camera. "It's true that there have been some comments here and there but I'm sure most of them were just pure jealousy! She really has a lot of talent and her personality makes everyone around her happy so I don't see why she should doubt herself so much."]
The door then opened and Chengcheng came in. I was expecting him to go to cheer on Zhengting too, but he only said hi and came towards me.
"I'll leave you with Romeo," Xukun said smirking and standing up.
"Yah!" I said and slapped his arm. "Don't say stupid things."
He laughed and left, Chengcheng wishing him good luck as he passed.
"How are you doing, Linlin?" He asked me and I stood up.
"Good, I guess. I don't know what to do to stand out. I can't do somersaults like Zhengting or dance as good as Lin Chaoze." I admitted.
"Well, with this attitude you definitely won't stand out." He said putting his pointer fingers on each corner of my lips and lifting them up. "This is what will make you stand out."
"Care to elaborate?" I said.
"It's easy, you are a girl. You need to use your charms. I have to remind you that the ones voting are a bunch of horny teenagers?" He said laughing.
"You are a horny teenager too, then?" I told him smirking.
"That's not my point! My point is that you can try to grab their attention by, for example, acting all cutesy at the beginning and then, BAAM!, all sexy and flirty." He said.
"That... that's actually not a bad idea!" I then said smiling happily.
"I will go now, good luck!" He said and he started to leave but I stopped him.
"Thank you Chengcheng!" I said and kissed his cheek before quickly running away to practice.
