The game wasn't going well, we were losing hard, and as another goal was lost, our half of the bleachers groaned. Wind whistled and whipped my hair around and I shivered. I was regretting showing up at all. Another groan echoed through the stadium, but I paused- that wasn't the crowd. The bleachers were suddenly quiet, except the few whispers of students. I shivered again, but not from cold. The players however, noticed nothing, and we finally scored, earning a few halfhearted cheers on our side. The opposite end of the stadium however, had erupted into low calls and talking, rising in volume and more and more people were wary. Suddenly, there was a loud scream, and several to follow it. A large machine with wings crashed through from under the bleachers, and chaos broke out, students were scrambling to escape the field, the game forgotten. Roxy clutched my arm and I gripped tightly onto her hand, standing up straight to see what was happening.
"we can't get out, everyone's crowding the exits." she yelled in my ear, and I nodded, my eyes scanning the field for a familiar flash of red and blue. Just then, more screams came, the machine was up, pointing towards the large steel beams holding up the shelter above and students, and another loud groan echoed around.
"there's a man in there." I mumbled, but Roxy was shaking my arm tighter
"Alexis! it's trying to collapse the bleachers!" she gasped and just as she said, the ground shook, and my stomach dropped. I cried out and held tighter onto Roxy as we struggled to stay upright. Where the hell was Spiderman?
"we need to leave! People move! Get out of here! EVERYONE GET OFF THE BLEACHERS!" I screamed desperately but it was lost in the panic now out of control. Though someone must have gotten some common sense, because everyone was pushing and shoving to get out. However, in the back row, we were stuck.
"Alexis look!" Roxy squeezed tighter and I almost fainted in relief. Spiderman was facing the odd machine man, who was clawing webbing off his face. Temporarily distracted, Spiderman leapt over to the door and kicked the other two open, motioning for everyone to get out, and they seemed to listen to him, the crowd slowly got thinner, there was less panic, but the chatter and calls of students was almost deafening. Roxy screamed loudly beside me and I gasped as my stomach jolted and dropped horribly. One leg of the stands collapsed and the whole thing lurched forwards, almost throwing me off my feet. The exits became more crowded and the chaos was getting to my head, and I was beginning to panic even more, nonexistent sirens blaring and my breathing sped up. No, that's not happening, it'll be okay this time, Spiderman is here, we'll get out of here. I told myself firmly, but it didn't help the burning in my throat. Roxy squeezed my hand reassuringly, but I could see that she was worried too.
"Come on, let's go!" I obeyed the pressure when she pulled me towards the exit, and I stumbled before catching myself and hurrying down to the crowd, still pushing to leave. I wasn't paying attention to the winged man and the masked hero in the middle of the field, focusing on getting out of here without exposing myself. Then several things happened at once. Someone yelled "NO!" and Roxy stared at me with wide eyes, then everything seemed to slow down. We were still in the bleachers, only about three steps from the top when the whole grandstand fell, and then everyone was screaming, as the metal winged man flew away. Spiderman was no-where in sight, but when we were barely two metres from crashing to the floor when it stopped with a jolt, sending both Roxy and I to the ground.
"get onto the field!" a voice shouted, now laced with pain, and everyone stopped trying to squeeze through the doors, flooding onto the field instead, and I sank down onto the grass, sighing.
"holy shit, Alexis he's holding up the whole damn thing." came Roxy's awestruck voice from beside me and I opened my eyes again, before my jaw dropped in shock. Spiderman was underneath the bleachers, his head down and his arms up, legs braced as he stopped the bleachers from crashing, and the few students still getting off it.
"jeez, he actually has powers. Look at that! That's not even remotely possible!" Roxy breathed and I nodded, then turned to my friend.
"of course he had powers, how do you think he's done all that other stuff? He swings on wens Rox." I said and she shrugged.
"I just thought he was really good at parkour." she said and I snorted, despite my still shaking body and my slightly hysterical mind.
"he can walk up walls."
"very good at parkour, then." SJE concluded, and I nodded, sighing and trying to calm my racing mind. God, that almost turned out so bad.
"are you alright Alexis?" Roxy said, watching me and I tried to slow my breathing and calm myself. It wasn't working. As people soon surrounded us and cheered on Spiderman, the screaming, although positive this time, was still not helping relax my frayed nerves. Don't go there don't go there, do not go there. I squeezed my eyes shut as hot tears rolled down my cheeks, and I tried to hold back my oncoming hysteria. My legs were still shaking and I hardly registered Roxy taking my hand again and pulling me away from the people, back into the halls of school, we're it was quieter and cooler.
"Alexis, we're fine now, you have to calm down." my best friend pleaded with me, pulling me into a hug and I nodded, feeling my heart rate slow. Roxy gave a start of surprise and pulled away, I saw Spiderman standing in the school hallway, looking bizarrely out of place against the blue lockers and anti bullying posters.
