"I can take her home." his voice was still gruff under the mask and I didn't protest, but Roxys arm, now around my shoulders tightened protectively. I felt a rush of affection for my friend, knowing she was hesitant to trust even spiderman for my sake.
"how do you know where she lives." Roxy said suspiciously, and I patted her back reassuringly.
"it's fine Rox, I'll explain later, I'll be fine." I said quietly, and she nodded, still not convinced.
"alright, text me." she whispered back and I, after assuring her that I would, followed Spiderman back outside.
"just, hold on." he said and I nodded weakly, hoping it wouldn't be too awkward. I closed my eyes the moment he stepped closer, holding tightly onto him when his arm came around my waist, and I didn't let go as we lifted off the ground, I just held tighter to him, wind rushing through my hair and over my face as he swung through the city, eventually slowing to a stop and I opened my eyes when we touched ground in what I knew was my bedroom before I even looked. I sighed and rubbed my face, looking around and letting the familiarity wash over me.
"are you going to be alright then?" he said gruffly, and I nodded, turning back to my room and turning on my lamp, so it was easier to see around me. The curtains weren't completely open and it was a little dark, despite the afternoon light passing through the gap.
"I'll be fine." I said quietly and he nodded slowly.
"I just, I saw you panic, I just wanted to make sure that you were." his voice was still deep and yet the stutter was familiar, and Peter Parker was brought to my minds eye, calming me down more.
"okay. Well, I'm going to go then." he said, lifting himself into the wall, prepared to climb out the window beside him.
"thank you." I said, not expecting him to hear me but he nodded, and I went on
"for helping, and getting me back here, the game didn't turn out so good." I clarified and he nodded.
"no problem." he said and I nodded.
"bye." my voice was quieter now, barely above a whisper as I turned to go to my door. I could definitely do good with something sweet right now.
"bye Lexa." I stopped dead, freezing in my tracks and tensing up as I heard the words being spoken. It was not in the gruff, deep voice that I was used to hearing, but a warmer, more natural version that I could never in a million years mistake for anyone else. I spun on the spot and stared in shock at Spiderman, who was sticking to the wall in front of me, easy as if he was on the floor. His back, hands and feet were behind him on the flat surface, and he was facing me.
"what did you say?"
Spiderman didn't answer my question, not moving a muscle, frozen at his place on the wall. I stepped closer, I tilted my head up a little too meet the eyes of his mask, understanding flooding through me. I lifted my hand to his cheek, and he still didn't move. I laughed quietly and shook my head.
"I can't believe I didn't see it." I whispered to myself, stroking my thumb over his fabric laden cheek. I slowly moved my hands down to the bottom of the mask and he finally moved his head back.
"Please, I need to see this" I said softly. He still didn't move, didn't say anything but I felt him sigh, the air pass over my face. The room was empty, and the yellow glow from my lamp was the only thing illuminating my surroundings.
Spiderman watched me carefully, but as I held the sides of the mask, he made no move to stop me. Taking it as him allowing me to continue. Slowly I lifted the fabric, hoping and dreading my own suspicions, but just as I thought, the brown eyes and curly hair of Peter Parker was in front of me.
I breathed his name and we started at each other for what felt like an eternity before I reacted. I stumbled backwards, almost tripping over my own feet as my mouth dropped open in surprise. Peter jumped off the wall, one step bringing him towards me, he wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close, hugging my head to his chest. I breathed in the scent of him, still in shock, but still hugging him back automatically. The fabric of his suit was stretched taut under my fingers, and he smelt the way he usually did, of warm bread, his room and a faint trace of cologne. He also smelled like smoke from the ordeal he has just been through as Spiderman. Peter was Spiderman! How? How did I not realise? So when spiderman held me against the roof on the subway, that was Peter, when Spiderman knocked out all those guys in the alleyway the day I broke up with Flash, that was Peter too. He must have followed me home after I turned down his offer of going with him, and when he came injured into my room, it was Peter with the huge slice over his chest, Peter who I healed, and so earlier, with the bleachers, that was Peter too?
"how?" I said and he moved back, not entirely letting go of me
"how do you- it's you, it doesn't make sense! you can climb walls Peter- and the webs, do they come out of you? How did you even- Peter you held up like three hundred people in those bleachers, that's not even possible! What-" Peter cut off my rambling by pressing his mouth against mine. I made a small noise of surprise, my eyes wider in shock. So Peter, who I was kissing was Spiderman! He brought his hand up to my face and I closed my eyes softly. The familiarity of how actions just confirmed again what I'd seen, it was definitely Peter. my panic and confusion was fading, as I realised that he was here, I was safe, he was safe, it was okay. Almost.
