Chapter Two

Season 1: The Night of the Comet

"She looks okay" Jeremy whispers; gazing down at sleeping Vicki in her hospital bed. Her back is facing Rosalie and Jeremy. Rosalie wraps her thin arms around Jeremy's waist to comfort him. He simply lays his arm on her shoulders and rubs her forearm.

"You two can't be in here. Visiting hours don't start till nine" The nurse squeezes by the two with a clipboard; checking all of machines that are attached to the brunette.

"We just--How is she?" Jeremy's voice cracks. He called Rosalie at six in the morning to see if she would be willing to drive him to the hospital to go see Vicki. He had to explain to her that Vicki had been attacked by an animal and bit her neck. She lost tons of blood and was brought to hospital. Rosalie couldn't imagine how Matt must be feeling. Last night was traumatic for everyone. The nurse sighs and turns to them.

"She's lost a lot of blood" The nurse doesn't look up from the clipboard.

"Yeah, but she's going to be okay, right?" The nurse looks up at Jeremy and Rosalie with a soft smile.

"She needs her rest. So you come back later," Rosalie lets go of Jeremy. His arm slides off her shoulder and she walks out the room as Jeremy stays to get one last look of her. "Come on" The nurse guides Jeremy out of Vicki's room.

The nurse closes the door behind her and walks past the high school kids. Rosalie grabs Jeremy's large hand. "Come on, we're gonna be late. I have to tell you something in the a car anyways" Jeremy's eyebrows scrunch together.

"Originally discovered five centuries ago, it hasn't been over Mystic Falls in over a hundred and forty-five years," Rosalie yawns as she lays her head on Matt's shoulder. He glances down at her before turning his attention back on his phone that he's trying to hide in his lap. "Now, the comet will be its brightest right after dusk during tomorrow's celebration. Are we bothering you, Mr.Salvatore? Miss Gilbert?"

Matt stiffens. Elena shakes her head in embarrassment. The bell rings, saving Elena of any more comments Mr.Tanner had in store. Rosalie takes her head off Matt's shoulder and gathers her things; stuffing them into her light tan Jansport backpack.

"Do you mind coming to the hospital with me to go see Vicki?" Rosalie smiles at Matt and nods.

"Not at all, Mattie. Of course I'll go with you. Did you drive? I'll give you a ride" Matt grins.

"Yeah, I'll need a ride. I rode with Tyler today" Rosalie's smile falters a bit, but she manages to catch it. Telling him here isn't appropriate. She'll do it when they go to see Vicki.

Matt and Rosalie leave the classroom and right as they left, Rosalie sees Jeremy speed-walking to the door outside. "Hey, I'm gonna catch up with Jeremy. I'll see you later?" Matt nods.

Rosalie jogs to catch up to her best friend. He acknowledges her, but doesn't say anything. Jeremy pushes the door open wide enough for Rosalie to tag behind him and not get hit by the door. Rosalie looks up at Jeremy. He's obviously is set on something. She follows his eyes. Tyler's standing at the football fence, talking to two girls. Blonde and brunette. His back is faced to Jeremy and her.

"Jeremy, don't do it" Rosalie grabs his wrist. Jeremy shakes her hand off and storms over to ravenette.

"Hey Tyler! Hey, I'm sorry to interrupt, I was just wondering how Vicki's doing, since you guys are so close. Is she okay?" Jeremy stops in front of Tyler.
