Mercy dodged a spear, before ducking as it swung back around like boomerang and killed someone else.
She held her knife close, Heartpierce's cold, red handle giving off a soft amount of steam from Mercy's warm hands. When someone got close, she stabbed them in an arm or a leg and froze the wound. It slowed them down, but didn't kill them. Yet.
Edric was throwing Ashruin, only missing his targets once or twice.
When people tried to attack him up close, he easily scooped them up and tossed them, or stabbed them when his spear was in his grasp. He shot up into the air to avoid an attacker with a long sword that looked like it weighed more than Mercy as it was made of a heavy material that was stronger than most metals, but sounded and looked like metal.
He rubbed his hands together. "Shinsu Technique, Aura of Ashes!" He turned the palms of his hands to his face and gently blew, as a small cloud of smoke with ashes grew, and spread on down below, making the spear bearers they were fighting cough and unable to see what was going on. Edric swooped down and grabbed Mercy, before also scooping up their new friend, Dae Jung, up into the safe zone.
Mercy was holding onto Edric's neck as she sat between his wings on his back while Dae dangled from Edric's hands, each of them holding onto each other's wrists.
"Thanks." Dae mumbled, looking as the spear bearers below succumbed to the ashes and either fell asleep or died.
Once the ashes and smoke cleared thanks to the vents, Edric set them down. A door opened, as they looked over. "Well, looks like we won." Dae walked on through, as Mercy looked at Edric.
"Good job."
"Thanks." He blushed, "It was nothing."
She smiled and walked on through, with Edric right behind her.
They looked around, and saw a few others had made it out from other domes. Maybe a quarter of what went in. Those who passed, were here. Those who failed or were dead, were still inside the domes.
"Congratulations, Regulars. You have passed the spear bearer tests. You may go join your companions in the rooms. You will be allowed to move on in the morning." Eldu smiled from on top a platform.
He tossed down crystals, that Mercy picked up two and handed one to Edric. They were healing crystals.
"We aren't hurt. We should give this to Noe." He told her, worried for their teammate.
"The others may have taken her to the clinic, but we should, just in case." She nodded in agreement. "Come on, let's head over to the room."
They bade Dae Jung farewell and ran to the room that they had been assigned to. "426... 426..." Mercy murmured, looking around for it.
They reached the fourth floor and saw the room.
Knocking, they waited until I opened the door.
"You guys made it!" I beamed happily, relieved that my friends were alright.
"Yeah, we made it. Is Noe ok?" Edric asked, concern heavy in his voice.
"She's ok. Come on." I motioned for them to come in, as the others were talking while Noe was resting on the bed, her wounds healed with tiny paper thin scars.
"Mercy! Edric!" Kal dropped the card game she was playing with the others, and ran over and tackled them, grinning. "You're ok!" She clung to them tightly as Mercy struggled to not fall, and Edric stood tall and strong like a well-built trunk of a tree, the roots of his feet firmly planted.
"What, did you doubt us?" He chuckled.
"Nu. But I worried."
He chuckled, before Kal let go of him and just held Mercy. She poked her cheek. "You are part of the trio. Don't break the band."
Mer rolled her eyes, keeping her laughter to herself. This was the first time that I had seen her smile and laugh in that little amount of time.
"So do we head up to the next floor right now, or do you get time to rest?" Ewart asked from the couch, putting down a card for the game that he was still playing.
"They'll send us up when it is time." Edric plopped onto the couch, making Dustin bounce next to him from his cushion, up into the air, only to land on the year younger, but taller and broadly built boy's lap.
He looked up at him and gave a flirty grin, "Hi."
Edric rolled his eyes and shoved Dustin off his lap onto the floor as Dustin screamed in surprise, making all of us laugh.
"We should get some rest while we still can." Weldon suggested, surpassing a yawn so we didn't catch the contagious sleepiness.
"You're right about that." Ewart nodded, winning the card game he had been playing as Kal pouted, having lost.
"Well, goodnight everyone!" Weldon headed off to the boy's quarters to get to bed, as one by one we slowly filed out of the room into the respected rooms.
I laid on my bed after changing into pajamas, and was out like a light.
"Jigu. Jigu." A chilling but seemingly familiar voice spoke out in my dream. I gripped the Dreamwriter tightly in the dream, ready to attack any threats that come.
"Who's there?!" I shouted, as my voice echoed.
"Jigu, be careful. The Sea Devil has her eye on you." The voice spoke again, as I turned around.
"Who is the Sea Devil?!"
"A woman who would do anything to get her hands on the Dreamwriter. She used to be part of a criminal organization in the higher floors known as FUG, but left in pursuit of the Dreamwriter, and the man who created it."
"Uncle Bul?" I looked at it.
"No. Your father, Abeijo."
I looked at the staff. I had always thought that I had made it, but then found out that Bul had given it to me. But now, my father who wasn't there for me, had made it.
"Be careful child. The Sea Devil is not one to let your guard down with." The voice vanished as the dream ended.
