Chapter Sixteen

I sighed and rubbed my eyes as I woke. It was bright in the window, but it might have been an illusion. I saw that the others were still fast asleep, as I sometimes was the first to awaken.

I sat up and walked to the ladies bathroom to shower. I turned on the tap for warm water, and hopped in, letting it flow over my head.

I soon dried myself off and got into fresh clothes. I put the dirty ones in the wash and went to go get some breakfast.

The dining table was filled with all sorts of foods, from eggs to bacon, all sorts of cereals, and juices galore.

I grabbed a bowl and the milk and cereal, preparing my meal, before sitting down with a spoon.

I soon heard Kal and one or two others race in. I could tell it was Kal, because she was screaming food at the top of her lungs.

I turned and saw that Dustin was gathering some bacon and eggs onto a pancake and drenching it with syrup to make a breakfast taco, while Ewart was chewing on something crunchy.

"Good morning!" Kal chorused as she plopped down into a chair next to me, a large pile of food stacked upon her plate.

"Morning Kal." I smiled softly and bit into my cereal.

"You ready for testing today? It is one on one."

"I suppose." I shrugged and drank the milk from my bowl. "Who goes first?"

"Bul will send a list to our pockets after everyone else has awoken." Mercy sat down on the others side of me, and drank her orange juice.

"Who is left?"

"Weldon, Noe, and, I think Edric. Jeonsa is in the shower." She took another sip.

I nodded. "I wonder what it is like."

"The testing you mean?"

I nodded, and grabbed an apple to eat. I bit into it and blinked surprised as it tasted like a pear but was crunchy like an apple. "What is this?"

"It's an apple pear. Have you never had one?"

"I suppose not." I took another bite and finished eating it.

Soon our pockets beeped, and I made mine reveal itself, to see that there was a list on it for order.

"So it goes, Edric, Ewart, me," Mercy started reading. "Weldon, Jeonsa, Jigu, Kal, Noe, and then Dustin last."

"Well, you of course will have to tell us how that goes!" Kal nudged Mercy and smiled.

"Do I look like someone who wouldn't?" Mercy rolled her eyes, but smiled back.

"Maybeeeeee.... OOO IS THAT A SMOOTHIE!" Kal bounded towards Weldon who screamed in fear and ran to protect his strawberry smoothie.

"Kal... Her mind will forever be set upon food. I think your uncle will let us watch from the windowed room. He is doing the testing in there." Mercy chuckled and smiled.

"Eh, uncle is still a little hard for me to adjust to. He did say to call him Bul." I bit my lip, self-conscious.

"Alright with that." She shrugged and finished her drink.

I smiled. "How hard do you think it would be?"

"Well, it is the floor of illusions. Have you not heard the stories of how the tower works?"

I shook my head no. "Not really."

"Well, you shall see the wonder which it possess. Come on."

We walked to the spot where a door closed ahead of us.

I saw Edric in the room. He was mirrored around the four walls.

The mirrors suddenly changed to be a new landscape and he seemed to vanish in the hills.
