Zibu and Folake continued with their play-fight, while Asma'u and Dai'ba were still on her bed talking. Dai'ba kept asking her questions and Asma'u couldn't just contain her happiness, they were both very happy.
'Has he called you this morning?' Dai'ba asked
Asma'u' facial expression changed, like she just had an epiphany.
'No' she replied with hesitation in her voice
'Maybe he is still sleeping, i am sure he slept very late, What's even the time' Dai'ba asked
'it's past noon' Asma'u replied
Just as she replied Dai'ba, Asma'u' phone started ringing, Dai'ba stretched to look at who it was. It was Nino, she smiled. Asma'u cleared her throat, sat properly on the bed. Dai'ba teased her as she spoke on the phone. Nino had asked Asma'u if she was free later at night, he wanted to come see her in school so that they could hang out and talk. She agreed and was excited too, knowing fully well that she had a lot of assignment to do since today was the last day of the mid-semester break. She prepared and left for class to round up her assignments.
It was just past 4 P.M and the evening was cool and cozy, Nino loved when the evenings were this way. On evenings like this, he'd just get his ear piece, step out into the school and just start walking. He would talk to himself all through, he'd always tell Fa'ad that the best person he likes conversing with was himself. The exhilarating feeling that engulfs him at the end of the walk, you'd think he had just won a lotto. Today was different, he couldn't go out even if he wanted to, because he had to start getting ready to go meet Asma'u later on. Punctuality was a thing with Nino, he was always punctual to almost everything, he hates keeping people waiting and he hates when people keep him waiting too. Well, you can't blame him, he went to a military school, so being punctual was as important as breathing. As he was getting ready, the thought of Asma'u flashed his mind, he let out a smile, blood rushed through his vein. This was the same feeling that engulfed him when he started going out with Sadiyah, he could still remember that day very well. Just before he gave Asma'u the letter the previous night, he had prayed for this one to be different.
'I am in front of your hostel' Nino said over the phone.
'Will be down stairs in a bit' Asma'u replied
'Yeah, please don't keep me waiting' Nino said, he was kind of nervous, he wanted the night to go perfectly.
'Oh, how i wish i had a car' He muttered.
The girls got Asma'u ready, it was like today was her wedding dinner. They wanted everything to be perfect. Dai'ba knowing the kind of person Nino was, they started getting her ready earlier than normal.
'Woohoo!! Our first date!' Folake said
'Don't go and get your own' Zibu replied her
'See kettle calling pot black' Dai'ba said
Nino was standing in front of the garden just opposite the hostel, so he could see anybody coming in or going out of the hostel. His eyes were fixed at the hostel's entrance. It was just 5 minutes after he called her, he wasn't really concerned about her punctuality, he was just getting more nervous by each passing minute. He looked down at his sweaty palms, he rubbed it against his jean trousers 'Thank God i didn't wear kaftan'
He looked up again. There she was, he couldn't see anything else, just her. Beauty resonated after each step she took, his heart raced, his knees were starting to fail him. He had to just man up and control his actions before all this spiraled out of control. She sighted him immediately she exited the hostel. It was just a few meters between the hostel entrance and the garden, but it took Asma'u a while to get to him. Folake and Zibu had advised her to walk like she owned the ground. Dai'ba thought it was too much of a show but they over powered her. Nino enjoyed every step she took until she finally got in front of him.
