It was a very warm evening in the female hostel and this is the time of the year you don't want to be in the northern part of Nigeria. Weather conditions in the north are always extreme, during the raining season, it rains like it will never end but actually the rain is not the amazing part. The most amazing part is the build up to the rain. First, is the extreme heat in the afternoons and then towards the evenings, the gusty winds start to blow things around, then the rain. The heat season are not nice too, and that's the time of the year electricity is least available, so the nights are usually uncomfortably hot. Then there is the dry-cold wind of the harmattan, this is usually the end of the year up until march of the following year. The nights are extremely cold while the afternoons are dusty and a little bit warm.

Not withstanding, the North is a very nice place, the people live simple lives, you still see huts and farms when you travel interstate. From the cold highlands in the Jos Plateau, to the hot sandy deserts in Sokoto. It is a host to so many tribes and languages but there is a common lingua franca which is Hausa. Although, for a while now it has been plagued by a menace mostly known as 'Boko Haram', which has changed the way foreigners perceive every northerner. Kano is the largest city in the north and it is the commercial hub of the northern Nigeria, there is a popular saying by the Kano people 'ko da me kazo, mun fika'.

'wallahi akwai zafi' Folake hissed as she used a hand fan to help her self.

Temperature that day was recorded at 36 degrees Celsius. The room was extremely hot and Dai'ba was also cooking in the room which contributed to the situation.

Dai'ba turned towards Folake, she chuckled 'hmmm.. your hausa don dey strong ooo..'

'mtchew.. someone should buy us cold drinks now, we can't just eat this jollof without drinks oo' Zibu mumbled at the other end of the room, she was also fanning herself with a hand fan.

'Let me call Asma'u and tell her to get some drinks if she is coming back from class' Dai'ba said

'haba! don't you think that will take time, it is still like 15 minutes to 5 now' Zibu grumbled 'wallahi i am very hungry'

'and so? abincin bai nuna ba' Dai'ba continued stirring the food in the pot.

Folake feeling a bit at ease now started laughing

'abeg go and wear cloth, no dey waka naked for room abeg' Dai'ba said as she stepped out to put some tomato paste wrapper in the bin

'ahn ahn.. allow me...' Folake frowned, she got up to get a t-shirt from the wardrobe.

Dai'ba is like a big sister to the girls, she has a motherly nature. She likes taking care of people be it at home or in school, maybe that's why Nino never lacks in school, Daiba has always been there for him, even after he had his worst break up ever. She was always at his place helping him out of his little depression. Which made the girls a little bit jealous since they were already used to Dai'ba taking care of little things like cooking, making sure they woke up early for lectures, praying and a whole lot of other things. They were all handicapped when it came to level of importance, they were not as family as Nino.

Folake, the fun one in the pack. She is a 200L Bio-Chemistry student, she can be termed "the grease" of the pack, she rarely quarrels with anyone and tries to solve any quarrels between the girls. She is very intelligent and beautiful too but she doesn't believe herself of being the latter. She doesn't like putting on make up, the best you can get her to put on is powder and lip gloss but anything aside from that is a big NO. 'I see these things as a waste of time' she always says whenever she was asked why. Indigenously from Oyo state, one of the south-western state of Nigeria, but she was born and raised in Ilorin, Kwara state, one of the 19 northern states in Nigeria. That's why she has a few heads up in Hausa language, she is very fluent in Yoruba and English too. She is chocolate in complexion(not dark not fair) and average in height and the only Christian in the bunch.
