It was Rick and Asher. I was so shocked that I stood rooted to the spot.
I heard Ben clear his throat next to me and as Rick and Asher broke apart abruptly, I was suddenly aware of the situation that was in front of me. Rick was cheating on Christina, with Asher. Someone who I was very surprised to see here. This didn't seem like her scene. More importantly, I thought that he was totally and completely in love with Christina. And I thought that when you love someone you don't go around cheating on them with artsy girls.
Asher looked clearly uncomfortable, and Rick wouldn't look at me. I couldn't stop staring at him though. I couldn't figure out why he would do such a thing. It just didn't make any sense. I wanted him to look at me and explain himself to me.
'Well.' I heard Ben say beside me and with that Asher sprinted off the way Ben and I had just come. Everything was happening but it was like I was going through a tunnel, I could only see one thing and that was a cheater.
'Cheater.' I sputtered out. Rick finally looked up, his face contorted with regret. But it was too late.
'Cheat. You fucking cheat.' I said, more confident in my words and actions. I felt a malicious side to me seep through and I enjoyed the pain I saw scrawled across Ricks face. I wanted him to hurt just as much as Christina will when she finds out.
I took a step towards Rick, only half a meter away from me. 'You better tell her first. Or I will. And you will be the bad guy in this situation.' He flinched at my words, but he had to do it. I didn't want to see any kind of grief inflicted on any of my friends faces.
'I can't.'
'What?'
'I can't do it. At least not tonight.' Ricks pleading eyes were placed upon mine and this time it was me that had to look away.
'Please, I'll definitely tell her tomorrow, but she's so happy right now I can't go out there and ruin her night.'
Well at least it was my night that was ruined and not hers.
'Alright, we'll let you off Rick, but you have to tell her.' Ben managed to say for me. Rick walked away visibly shaken by our conversation. I couldn't say the same for Ben and me. We both looked at each other and I spoke, 'Did not expect that.'
Ben ruffled his blonde hair and agreed. 'Shit yeah, that was pretty embarrassing.' He smiled at me and I realised for the first time that it was a pretty embarrassing situation.
I sighed and started to walk back to the party. 'Fuck, I'm always in the worst positions!' I heard Bens muffled laughter and clicked at what I had really just said. 'Shut up, dickhead!' I said as I punched him in the shoulder. I shook my head at my own idiocy when I heard Jules calling out to me.
'Angel get your ass over here right now!' She managed to holler at me from the other side of the back yard.
She was halfway up a tree with Ryan standing underneath her.
I walked over promptly and gave Ryan a questioning look.
'My baby, what the hell are you doing in the tree?' I looked up and it seemed like she had her legs and arms wrapped around a branch, but a branch below her didn't get the message and had the hem of the skirt stuck so she couldn't move without ripping her skirt.
'I wanted to climb the tree; it looked like it was the easiest to climb.' She told me and I burst out into fits of laughter. Everyone else at the party had seen her kept looking over to watch but none were particularly ready to come over and help.
'And you let her?' I mumbled to Ryan and he chuckled at my comment.
'She's just having a bit of fun Ana, don't come over here and spoil it!' he told me, clearly trying to hold his laughter back.
'Actually, not having fun anymore! Can someone help me out?' she mumbled.
'You got yourself in that position; you can get yourself out of it.' I told her, managing to elbow Ryan in the process before he could say some ridiculous sexual innuendo.
'Knew it was coming aye.' Ryan whispered and I giggled.
'It's blatantly obvious. You're an idiot. And that's all idiots think about.'
'Harsh!' he said, feigning hurt.
'Then why didn't you talk her out of climbing the tree huh?' I asked him, nudging him again.
'You just wanted to see up her skirt.'
'I did not! I just thought it would be funny is all.'
'Funny looking up her skirt.' I mumbled, making sure Ryan only just heard.
'Hey you two! Help a sister out here!' Jules yelled out and I suddenly remembered her. Talking to Ryan made me forget my surroundings.
I looked back up and as much as I would like to climb a tree, I didn't think it would be practical me getting up there in this dress. Another reason why I don't dress up when we go to parties...
Ryan and I kept looking at each other, me expecting him to climb up and him, obviously thinking the opposite.
'I ain't climbing that tree. Have you not seen what I'm wearing?' I said and he smiled quite evilly.
'All the more reason for you to get up there.' He said getting behind me and pushing me closer to the tree.
'Hell no! I am not climbing this tree Ryan! You have to do it! Stop pushing me!' I started yelling trying to push my way back but Ryan was too strong.
'Go on, I know you secretly wanna do it, just get on up there and unhook her skirt, you'll be fine.' He tried to convince me but I was not going anywhere near that tree wearing this dress.
'I'll do it.' I heard Damien say behind us and Ryan stopped pushing me as Damien walked past the both of us and proceeded to climb the tree quite easily and helped Jules get back down.
As I helped Jules fix herself up I noticed how drunk she actually was. She could hardly keep her eyes open and she was wobbling all over the place. 'You alright my baby?' I asked as she went around the back of the tree to retrieve her bottle.
She stumbled back and I grabbed her shoulders to help steady her, she shook my hands off her and started walking away back to the fire.
'Yeah yeah I'm fine.' She said and waved me off. I watched her as she made her way onto the couch and then splashed some of her drink on her skirt. I shook my head but left her, she hadn't been this wasted in a long time, and I guessed that she was having fun.
I looked around the party, and noticed it was most of the people that sit in our group at school, bar the J and the boys. I saw Rick hovering by Christina and I could see the guilt all over his face. I felt a twinge of pain in my chest, knowing that sooner or later Christina will receive the news and no doubt want to hit Ben and me up about it. I'm really going to dread that.
Just then J and the boys had turned up to crash the party. In usual style they were all dressed up with nowhere to go, and making an entrance as they always do when they turn up anywhere.
I rolled my eyes and turned my back to the idiots, who had all run over to Christina and had picked her up and were carrying her around the fire while singing 'Wheels on the bus.' Idiots, is all I can say to that.
