I pulled up at Mas' house and quickly ran inside. Mary's my childhood friend and I would go as far to say that we're blood related somehow. Like twins blood related. Too bad I've already got one of those. I scamper over to her mother and give her a kiss on the cheek and a hi. She smiles at me. That's all she needs to say to let me know where Mary and Jules are.

I jump the stairs two at a time and slide around on the hardwood floor until I reach the bathroom door. I grab it a bit too hard and the floor suddenly disappears from under me and I find myself lying on it. There's a period of silence and suddenly laughter erupts. From me and my best friends.

Mary and Jules poke their heads out the door still laughing and help me up.

'Ana you've ruined our make up! Now we have to start again!' Jules tells me whilst wiping tears from her face.

'Naw I'm sorry my baby you know how I just looove to make an entrance!'

I say holding my gut cos at the moment it feels like it's going to burst.

I call Jules my baby because the most obvious reason is that she's the youngest of us, but mainly because when we were 8 she started at our school and was bullied a lot so I took her under my wing and taught those bullies a real good lesson when the teachers weren't looking. Lets just say they cross the street when they see me now, 8 years later. Ha ha ha.

Ma suddenly looks at me and frowns. I say 'What's wrong my blista?'

'Your outfit that's what.'

'Yeah right. Haven't I already told you enough? I mean I say this every single time we go out but you obviously have selective hearing or something so I'm gonna say it one more time. I'm not a slut so I'm not dressing like one.' I tell her sternly.

'Sorry, I missed that last part, could you repeat it for me again?' Ma says and cracks up.

Sooo not funny.

'Seriously Ma I'm not wearing a dress tonight. I like what I'm wearing and you ain't gon make me change my mind.' I tell her.

'Okay okay I wont make you get changed. But a lil' more make up just for me??? Please?' she looks at me with her puppy dog eyes and flutters her eyelids. I've seen that move since kindy.

'Make up or alcohol. Your choice Ma.'

'Darn you drive a hard bargain Ana, but it's cool, I'll get you next time. I promise.' And with that Mary turns around and gets on with her eyeshadow.

I see Jules is nearly finished so I head to Ma's room to hang out while they finish getting ready. The party's at Jennys house. She throws one every time her parents go away. Which is like, every weekend. She's pretty cool though so I always at least try and make an appearance for her. The party's usually better though when the boys have won a game that day. That's when it gets pretty rowdy. Teenage boys, I swear and it gets worse in the school holidays when the uni boys come back. It's like double the size. Which is fine cos Jennys house is absolutely huge, one of the biggest in town. I can tell it's gonna be a rowdy one tonight cos the boys thrashed today in rugby. 90-0. They stopped the game 10 minutes early because it was THAT embarrassing. But I think cutting it that close to full time is even more embarrassing. Whatevs.

I hear Jules calling out to me. 'Angel, we're ready to go!'

They call me angel because my full name, Anahera means angel in Maori. And Jules thinks I'm her own personal guardian angel. She doesn't know how special she makes me feel when she says that to me.

I take my time walking around the house and see they're waiting by the door.

'Geez grandma, need a walking stick or something? Get a move on!' Ma says.

'Actually I think I need a hip replacement, I took a fall earlier on and I didn't have my Medic Alert bracelet with me, but thank fully these lovely young girls helped me up.' I retort and give Mary a huge smirk.

She just rolls her eyes and Jules adds in 'Come on now ladies, plenty of time for that later when we're all drunk! To the alcohol store!'

Mary and I reply at the same time, 'Whatever batman!'

We look at each other and start laughing our heads off.
