Taylor's POV
I woke up at six in the morning for our scheduled appointment with the adoption agency. After a couple weeks of planning and thinking we finally decided to give this a go.
"Let's go bro!" I yelled punching Matt's arm until he started waking up.
"Dude, go away" he shouted into his pillow.
"Today is the appointment with the adoption agency, now wake your ass up and let's go!" I ripped his white comforter off his bed revealing his skimpy body.
When we got to the agency I called my dad and told him the big news that I was planning on adoption. Nothing makes me feel better than knowing my dad is proud of me. It means the world to make my dad happy and I knew this would get him since he came from an adoptive home.
When we walked in a bunch of kids from all ages, sizes, and races were running around and chasing each other. The sounds of laughter and small feet paddling the ground filled the air. It was like if Disney Land had no adults.
"There are so many small people" Matt whispered to me in my ear. A tall women popped out of no where and made her way in front of us before we could take another step.
"Hello, I'm Jourdan, and you are?"
"I'm Taylor and this is Matt" I introduced myself and Matt and she took us to a office. Matt and I sat down on the dark wooden chairs. I looked around the room at all the certificates and framed pictures around the walls.
"Here is a book with every female and male here, it tells their name, age, birthday, etc." she said handing a big red leather book to me.
"Get an idea of what kind of child you're looking to fit into your family and we can go over the criteria you need to meet before adopting."
I opened it and Matt looked over my shoulder to see. We started flipping, skimming, and scanning different pages. There was a variety of different faces that came and go.
"What about that one" Matt said pointing to a thirteen year old girl named Kyra. Cam, Nash, Matt, and I agreed that if we adopt we were going to take in an older kid to avoid the early stages of parenthood that nobody was truly ready for.
"No, too old" I said flipping the page. I want a kid that's is young enough so I can still raise it as my own, but still old enough to skip the baby stages.
After awhile we finally agreed.
"We're interested in Karla" Matt said showing her the book. Karla was a decent age and had a good behavioral background.
"Karla, good pick she comes from a good home." Jourdan grinned.
She got a intercom and called Karla to the office.
"She's on her way down here, and are you guys a couple?" she asked nervously trying not to be insensitive.
Matt and I looked at each other and started chuckling.
"No, we are roommates" I tried to explain, it still didn't sound right.
To break the awkwardness a small knock on the door grabbed everyone's attention. The door creeped open and a small girl stood in the doorway.
"Hello, I'm Taylor and this is Matt" I said bending down to her height. She looked anxious I didn't want to startle her.
"Hi" she said really quietly. She was so cute and little even though she was seven, she seemed five. She was small for her age is a better way to put it.
My foster care license taken care of a few weeks ago giving me the privilege to foster Karla to see if she was a right fit for us.
Karla's POV
I played around with my favorite stuffed animal, a cat names Carlos when the speakers went off, usually it was just someone in trouble being called to Ms. jourdan's office. Never for me though I just stay out of trouble.
"Karla, please come to the office."
At first I didn't flinch since I never get called over the intercom, but then I realized I'm the only Karla here.
Then Kyra walked in the room and she paused. She looked at me upset.
"What are you doing?" she asked confused. I didn't want to make Kyra worried if I was in trouble.
I shrugged my shoulders. My stomach hurt, what if I am in trouble? What if they found out I didn't do my chores yesterday.
"Tell me what happens" Kyra patted my shoulder. "You better go now" she suggested.
I twisted the doorknob of our bedroom and made my way downstairs to the big office. My mind fluttered different reasons I could be in trouble. I didn't do anything wrong.
When I got down there I saw two tall boys sitting in the wood chairs where Mom and Dads are supposed to sit when someone is getting adopted.
One had a bright bandana around his head and his ears were pierced. The other boys hair was spiked up and he looked like a singer that Kyra used to love.
Was I in trouble? Or is this a family interested in me?
The one with the bandana squatted down in front of me. I looked at his face studying what he looked like.
"Karla, this is Taylor and Matthew" Ms. Jourdan introduced. "They are going to foster you for a little bit okay?" She smiled.
I smiled back and thought about leaving Kyra behind...
