"Trish!" Jai said from behind while I was walking towards my classroom.
He paced up to meet my steps.
"Yeah!" I said when he was beside me.
"Can you come home in the evening today? Got some english work to do," he said, yeah! I help my senior in his literature assignments.
"Sure!" I said.
He then handed me The Invisible Man, the novel and said,"Read this for reference."
"Okay," I said taking the book from his perfect hands,"Would Danny be there?"
"Nope! He's going to the winter fair with Riya."
"Oh okay! Gotta go now! Classes," I said and smiled at him.
He whispered a thank you and left. I watched his silhouette walking far away, inhaled deeply and went to my classroom.
-- -- --
When at home, I got ready in a loose black hoodie with my black jeans and a pony tail. I messaged Jai that at what time would he be expecting me.
'You can come now' was his reply.
Now, this thing is important. I had never been in a room alone with Jai! How was I even gonna deal and keep my composure?
'Okay' I replied.
I left the home to face the chill wind that awaited me. Unlike most people, I actually love winters and the way that the cold wind pricks over your body. Wierd, right? It doesn't snow here, though.
I reached his home in about fifteen minutes, the way to his home had become quite usual to me now. I rang the bell and stood there for a good five minutes before Jai opened the door with a smile on his lips and hope in his eyes. Afterall, I was going to help him in his assignment.
"Hey!" he exclaimed, his eyes beautiful as usual, looked in mine and I'm pretty sure that my heart skipped a beat.
"Hi," I said controlling myself.
"Come in!" he exclaimed again holding the door open for me to enter.
I entered.
"So, I read the summary of the chapters," I said while we were sitting on a mat in his room with two cups of hot chocolate beside us on the table.
"Yeah! Actually, our english teacher had asked us to write a story related to this one, about SciFi," he said while turning the pages of the novel in his hand.
"And you aren't creative enough to write it on your own?" I mocked sarcastically.
"Wanted someone's company, plus you are really good at the creative stuff!" he said.
This made me blush a little but atleast this blush was justified.
"Hmm, right. So let's begin," I raised my eyebrows and said.
"Where do we start?" he asked with excitement.
"With characters," I said while already scribbling down a character's description on a notepad.
"As you say!" he smiled and started scribbling down something too.
So, after a good one hour we came out with a pretty decent 1000 words story about a 17 years old girl who invented something that helped her to transport herself from one place to another. The catch was that she couldn't be seen in the other place. The story ended with that girl being stuck in extreme climate of Antarctica and being unable to get to her home because the machine was sent to a dumpster by her mother.
I didn't think that the story was too great personally but Jai seemed to be content with how it came out.
Then, I collected my items and placed them in my bag.
"Thank you so much!" he said while holding the main door open.
"No probs!" I said cheerfully, he smiled back.
I had never smiled so much in my life than I did in the past few weeks.
-- -- --
It was already 29th of December, new year's eve was so close. I found myself making a list of resolutions in my head, every now and then. Today was the last day of school this year and I guess that I would see Jai directly next year after today. I hadn't seen him since morning and I had no idea where he was.
The dispersal bell had already rung and everyone was busy talking to each other, making plans for the new year's eve and going back to their homes. I walked slowly among the cheering crowd when suddenly Jai approached me with damn that smile. He made me smile so big.
He stood in front of me, his eyebrows so raised that they almost touched his hairline. He ran his hand through his hair in a quick motion and then said,"Thank you!"
"What for?" I asked with a huge grin. This couldn't get any better.
"Ms.Mendonca loved the story," he said smiling and before I could even congratulate him, he took me in his embrace. Damn!
I could feel him surround me and I could feel his warmth that melted me. I never wanted this to end, I couldn't hug him back that would be wierd, right?
"Thank you, thank you, thank you so much, Trish! You're amazing!" he said still holding me.
"The pleasure's all mine," I exhaled.
I just patted his back twice and he broke the hour long hug. Shit!
I was still unable to get control of my breath. I took a few quick breaths and smiled at him. A friendly smile.
"Tell me you don't have any plans for new year!" he asked with excitement.
I actually didn't have any plan but I just pretended to think,"Umm, I'm free."
"Great! Come over to my home, Danny asked to invite you and now... I'd like you to come too," he said before he ran away.
The last phrase was enough for me to melt.
