This chapter is one of my personal recommended knowledge before you delves into chinese characterChinese character or the word can be complex and challenging. But knowing this radicals can be very helpful for you to recognize and recall the character in implications.
You don't have to memorize them for the moment, skimmed it and make sure that you know about them.
I included some examples of the word/chinese character so that you could learn words in the process.

Is "beside the word".
It is also known as radicals, which stands beside other strokes or radicals to form a complete a chinese character.字旁 zì pǎng = 部首 bù shǒu
Both means radicals/beside the wordThe common "beside the word" or radicals are as follows.

说 shūo means say
谁 shéi means who
言 yá means say or words.
*yan here can stand as an independent character or as a beside word *
