Colorblind

I have always been a fan of colors.
Rainbows, blue skies, midnight blue with the stars twinkling at night.
An optimist you may say.
I smile each and every single day.

Believing the world is mostly virtuous.
That some are just misunderstood.
Watching the news blanketed new emotion.
Pain has filled hearts across the country.
Separation of families, mass shootings, hateful comments.

Today I woke up to a different world.
The rainbow I see is in shades of grey.
The midnight blue I once loved now black.
Beautiful colors now a thing of the past.
Colorblind I've become.
