WORDS OF THE LIVING
(BODY IMAGE/LOVE, AGAIN)
I spend my life fixing things
Snapping the twigs of a birch tree to make a splint for a bird's wingSawing the branches, to make more room for the cat's paws
Fixing the table when the dogs tripped over it
Making a turtle a terrific shell. A home for it to live in.
Protecting all the mice and birds, from power hungry predators
But I do not feel so much pride in fixing any of these things.
As I do in fixing
You
Plastering your scars
Saying everything's ok
Listening to your problems
That your there, more than halfway
Telling you your not meant to look like the models in magazines
Cause that's fake
Fake
Not real, a phony
Crooked, bad and corny
A fabricated storyYou look better than all of them
Put together
Because you, girl have the greatest heart
And that doesn't need fixing
It doesn't hurt that you're beautiful
But you don't see that at all
I was the only one to notice
When you put a sign up, vacant, free
Oh what you mean to me
But I keep it all inside
Swallow all my pride
But girl, I lied
You are all I think about
The one person I can't
Live without
