“Come on, Jared. I know you don’t exactly like nature, but this place is really cool. I want you to see it. I promise you won’t get stung by a bee again.” Evan pleaded, wanting Jared to come with him to his favorite place in the town they lived in.

“I can’t take my chances, Evan. You know it.” He said, smirking slightly.

“Please?” Evan frowned, taking one of Jared’s hands in his own. Jared looked at him for a moment, trying not to let Evan win this one. He failed and sighed.

“Fine. We’ll go to your special place or whatever.” Jared rolled his eyes. He walked out to his car and let Evan drive after he insisted.

“You’re letting me drive?” Evan smiled brightly and got into the driver’s seat. He usually didn’t drive because of how anxious he got on the road, but he couldn’t simply tell Jared where they were going. It was a secret, and he knew both he and Jared realized that.

After some half an hour or so, they were finally there. Jared had begged Evan for an answer as to where they were going the whole time, even asking if he was going to be killed as he noticed the area got more and more rural. Evan had laughed and said no.

Evan snuck in through a small gap in the gate and had Jared go the same way-or, try to. Jared winded up not being able to fit in the gap, and Evan told him he’d have to climb, which he was equally as bad at. Soon enough, though, Jared had climbed the fence and jumped down. He acted all cocky about it, even though minutes before he was scared of breaking his legs from a three or four-foot drop.

Evan took Jared’s hand, happy to have been where they were. This place was his happy place, and he wanted Jared to know about it.

“Where are we, anyway? If you don’t tell me, I’m seriously gonna think I’m being killed. Seriously, who tells their boyfriend they’re going somewhere and then not tell them where they’re going?” Jared scoffed.

“A lot of people, Jare, it’s sorta, it’s like, it’s called a surprise.” Evan chuckled nervously. What if Jared didn’t like it?

“‘Surprise’ my ass.” Jared rolled his eyes, holding Evan's hand. Evan began to walk into the woods until they reached a clearing, where Evan had set up a small picnic. Jared smiled a little. He may have seemed upset, but he really did like the small, bright area. He especially liked that Evan had actually done this for him. It wasn't every day that they got to do something special, with school and all.

“For me?” Jared smiled, going to sit on the blanket.

“For you, yeah. I made us sandwiches, with your favorite, Nutella.” Evan beamed, sitting right beside Jared with a small grin.

“Damn, I think you know me too well.” Jared laughed, leaning against Evan. Evan wrapped his arms around Jared with a grin. He ran his hands up and down Jared's back.

They didn't hear Connor Murphy, of all people, approach the trail. Suddenly, the crestfallen boy was met with the two cuddling while sitting at the base of a tree, smiling and laughing together.

Just what Connor needed when all that plagued his mind was Evan Hansen.

Connor froze and looked at the two, happy as they could be until they noticed the tall male staring at him. They both looked equally as shocked that they had been found, especially by Connor Murphy.

Connor walked away in shame, trying to push away the pang in his chest and terrible thoughts in his mind. He didn’t need Evan, is what he told himself. And Evan clearly didn’t need him.

And just like that, Jared and Evan went back to their cuddling and happiness, and Connor was out of their picture.
