#18- I Rest The Case
Manik looks at her in defeat, until it strikes him.
Nandini Murthy doesn't argue back in front of her chachi."Perfect!" he exclaims whisperingly as he passes her a sly smirk and walks downstairs.
"Chachi," Manik calls out as he relaxingly sits on a sofa, "Nandini haina, bohot tareef karti hai aapke khaane ki." He compliments her as Nandini enters the hall with raised eyebrows.
Chachi peeks out of the kitchen, "Achha?" she pleasantly looks at Nandini. "Thank you! Aaj khana khila kar hi bhejungi. Ghar jaane mein waise hi late ho jayega tumhe." She tells and goes back.
Manik brings his attention back at a fuming Nandini.
"So," he tells her, "I guess we should start with Raghav sir's project."
Nandini sat on the opposite sofa and held her head."I'll-"
"I am tolerating you over here just because I don't want to break chachi's heart by telling her that you and your gang were the ones torturing me and Nav.....uhm, me." She burst out in annoyance and regretted the moment she uttered Navya's name.
Manik tried to read her expressions but couldn't.
"Don't worry, we won't use what I bymistakely read out...from your diary." He continued, "I'll make everything... the whole composing, tuning, etc and take all the required confirmations from Raghav sir, you need to just... uh...learn it and sing with me on stage." He said.
Nandini eyed him accusingly, misinterpreting his compensation for the mess as his dominance.
"Listen Mr. Monster Manik, I have already teamed up with Navya and I have no interest in singing with you. But because I am stuck, we might have to show up on stage, unless ofcourse, you take advantage of being the son of our college's trustee." She gave him a disgusting look.
"Why are you over reacting damnit?" his patience and all that his father filled in him was over, and so he gave back, "I didn't know you'd feel so bad about someone reading your diary, and agar itna hi secret hai toh why didn't you take care haan?" he furrowed his brows in annoyance.
Chachi came back with hot parathas all buttered. She sits on the sofa next to Manik and serves him.
"Pata hai mein toh kabhi soch bhi nahi sakti thi, ki Nandu ne ek hi hafte mein itne saare dost bana liye." Chachi tells him as he takes a bite.
Manik, instead of replying her chachi, looks down at the thing on his plate as a moan escapes his throat. His voice grabs Nandini's attention, "This thing...full of potatoes... kya khaya maine?" the food taken away his attention for the moment.
"Alu Parantha. Punjabi munde lagde o tussi, kadi paranthe ni khaaye?" chachi exclaimed surprisingly.
