"Nandu! Manik!" came Chachi's shout breaking Manik's trail of thoughts, "Khana laga diya hai jaldi aao."
Had Chachi not interrupted, Manik might have just noticed the way Nandini gazed at the stars. Longingly. Pensively. Bitterly.
"Yeh kya hai??!!" Manik stared at the dish agape. Stuffed ladyfinger garnished over lasagne sent a weird tingly aroma - or odour – as he would like to put it, all through the dining table.
"Bhindi lasaania!" came a voice from the kitchen. "Meri new invention!"
Manik scrunched his nose, then slowly turned his face to a disinterested Nandini plucking the garnishing out of the dish into her plate.

She didn't answer. She didn't even look his way. Muttering a quick prayer, she lifted a piece of stuffed bhindi from her plate and took a bite.
Manik's face seemed like he was about to puke. Nandini could hardly control her smile. Manik looked on as Rishabh too came down, sat opposite Nandini and scooped some lasagna for himself.
"Rishabh, seriously?" Manik whispered to him in horror.
The boy simply smiled and scooped some more out for Manik as well.
"I think Rishu is saying that the lasagna isn't that bad." Nandini said, while Rishabh touched the tips of his thumb and the index finger to appreciate the dish. Manik stared at the plate in front of him, then at Nandini and Rishabh quietly eating their food.
"Aiyooo Shanno ji," Chachaji approached the table seeing the new dish and cringed, "aaj Nandu ka pizza wala friend first time dinner pe aaya, aur tum yeh banayi??"
Chachi stormed out of the kitchen with a rolling pin in her hand. "Yeh banayi matlab?" she scoffed. "Abhi tak khaya bhi nahi aur complain shuru. Dekho bachhe kaise shanti se kha rahe hain. Kuch kaha unhone?" She looked at Manik, "Manik beta, kaisa laga mera naya dish?"
