#23- He Has a heart.

Nandini's instincts were ringing loudly in her head. Deep down, she had already understood that Dhruv's condition is no different than Rishabh's. Her raging heartbeats were taking their own sweet time to come to terms with the fact that this wasn't just a natural, rare coincidence- crossing her paths with Dhruv was somewhere destined by her Aiyappa.

Dhruv held his head and started shaking in affliction. Nandini again started calming him down along with explaining the route to the driver. It took thirty minutes for the driver to reach his home through the busy roads of Mumbai. Dhruv's mother was standing outside her house waiting for their cab. The driver helped Nandini carry Dhruv till his room. Nandini paid him and he left.

"Breathe, Dhruv. Breathe..." Nandini said and switched on the fan. Dhruv's mom passed her a glass of water which she slowly made Dhruv drink. She started calming him down, once again patting his head and humming a lullaby, just the way she has always done, to heal her little brother.

Nandini's mind was muddled. Bouts of emotions wanted to erupt from her throat but she drowned the voices in her lullaby. She used those emotions, the choked voice down her throat to create ripples and ripples of the sweetest melody that were able to calm Dhruv down and put him to sound sleep. Her voice echoed inside Dhruv's room. Beside his bed, stood his mother muffling her incessant sobs, afraid that she might wake Dhruv up now that he has finally slept under the musical spell which this kind stranger has cast upon his son.

Nandini wanted to cry. She wanted to shout her lungs out. She wanted to ask her Aiyappa why he gave such punishments to good people, why instead of wiping out the evil he pushed another innocent into the abyss, why?

Nandini observed Dhruv sleeping peacefully and got up from the bed. Dhruv's mom held her cheek lovingly and muttered a 'Thank you'. Nandini was too numb to react. They both slowly tiptoed out of his room.

Dhruv's mom, Padmini Vedant, is a simple housewife whose husband is an NRI. All had been perfect for little Dhruv- a perfect house, perfect parents, perfect health- until he turned thirteen. And one night was all it took to destroy this happy family.

"Thank you beta. You saved my son's life. God bless you!" fat tears rolled down his mother's eyes as she held her hand in her firm grip.

Nandini hissed in pain and jerked her hand out of her hold.
"Sorry I didn't mean to..." Nandini replied defensively thinking she had hurt her.

Padmini noticed the swelling on her wrist and requested her to come to the kitchen.

"Maine tumhe hospital jaane se mana kiya, because doctors ke pass bhi koi permanent ilaaj nahi hai," she made Nandini sit on a chair, "From that night, till today, Dhruv ko sirf Manik hi handle kar paya hai. He's the only one who has taken care of him whenever Dhruv has got these attacks. Jaise aaj tumne kiya..." she smiled in gratitude as she fished out a jar of haldi. (turmeric)
