Kate's POV
"Honey are you okay?" Isaac asked a couple minutes later when my tears slowly ebbed. I nodded into his chest and in response pulled me closer to him.
"Katie? I found dad's room." Dylan said walking up to us. I looked up in time to see Isaac give him a glare. "Okay then. Just follow me. From the window he looked awake." Dylan said completely ignoring Isaac.
Isaac and I followed Dylan slowly down the hall. He paused outside the door. "Hey I've got to go change. Prepare for surgery. I'll be back in a few minutes." Dylan said turning and walking away.
I pushed open the door and dad looked up at me. "Daddy!" I cried running to his bed trying to ignore the pain that shot through my leg.
"Katie? I'm so sorry. So so sorry. Please forgive me." Dad begged as soon as I came to a stop next to him.
His voice sounded strained and I could see the sorrow and pain in his eyes. But there was also a glimmer of hope that was slowly fading the longer I thought. "Daddy. I forgave you years ago. You didn't know what I was going through at the time. The past is the past." I said giving him a small smile that didn't hide my sadness.
"Kat?" Isaac asked from behind me. I turned to look at him and felt the ridges of my bullet proof vest against my skin. "Kat, Dr. Brian is coming down the hall. He was talking to Liam's doctor." Isaac said as he walked over and stood next to me.
"Katie. Who is this?" Dad asked and I heard a slight gasp. I glanced at Mom and saw that she was staring at my waist. I quickly pulled down my shirt covering my badge.
"Mom. Daddy this is Isaac. Isaac these are my parents." I said as there was a knock on the door. I didn't have to look back to know that it was Dylan. "Come on in Dylan. I was just introducing everyone." I say and staring at dad's shocked face.
"Katie. Scarlett needs you. The doctors did all they could. Liam is on life support that way everyone could tell him bye." Dylan said and I could hear the worry in his voice when he spoke again. "Scarlett isn't taking this so well."
"I'll go see her as soon as dad is taking care of." I say smirking a little up at him.
"My name is Dr. Dylan Brian. I will be your surgeon today." Dylan said and I saw dad's face blanch. "We will talk afterwards about everything. Just remember that I'm sorry." Dylan added so softly I barely heard him.
The nurses came in them and hooked dad up to the IV's then he was whisked away. Dylan gave a sad smile of encouragement before running after them.
I followed out the door and paused once I saw Scarlett weeping against the wall. "Scar? I'm so sorry." I said pulling her into my arms. She wrapped her arms around me and sobbed into my shoulder.
"I can't believe he's dead. This is all my fault." She said between sobs. She squeezed me tighter as her son's became louder.
"Scar. This isn't your fault. It's mine. All this ties back to the fact that I lied to the police fourteen years ago." I said trying to calm her down a little.
"No. Kate this is not your fault. Don't you dare try to place the blame on yourself." Scar said pulling back to look at me.
"Scar. We can talk about this some other time. Now we need to find everyone else. Does Mrs. Payne know about Liam?" I asked as I looked down for the first time noticing the prosthetic leg shale had.
"No. I can't believe that I lost Charlie and Liam in the same day." Scar said as we made our way back to the waiting room. Mrs. Payne stood as we came in. She took one look at us and started to cry.
She ran out of the room leaving us alone with a sleeping Taylor and Joshua. "Well that went well." Scar said her tone making me laugh.
"What's funny?" Isaac asked walking in behind us. I turn to see Isabelle and Henry standing behind him.
"Isabelle are you okay?" I asked and she looked up from her wheelchair with tears running down her cheeks. "Oh I'm so sorry." I say stepping away from Scarlett to give her a hug.
"What happened?" Scar asked sitting in the chair next to Taylor.
"Isabelle had a miscarriage. She just woke up." I explain so Isabelle wouldn't have to. "Where is Journey!?" I suddenly exclaim realizing that she wasn't with them.
"I took her to the station while you were helping them." Isaac said looking over at Scarlett. I sighed and walked over to a chair.
As I sat in the chair Isaac handed me my laptop. I watched as Henry and Isabelle sat across from us. "If you guys want to go my keys are still in the truck. You guys don't have to stay." I say opening my laptop.
"No. You were there for us when we needed you. And now you need us even if you don't want to admit it. We heard about your father." Isabelle spoke up her voice sounding super rough.
"Okay your choice. Just don't think that you have to stay here because you owe me something. Scarlett what was Charlotte's last name?" I asked opening the police database.
"Yeah. Howard. Charlotte Howard." Scarlett answered as I typed the name into the search bar.
Only one profile popped up. It was a middle-aged woman with brown hair and blue eyes. It said that she showed up on the side of the road with no memory at all. "Um Scarlett. Can you describe her for me?" I asked not looking up from the screen.
"Sure. She was 5'7. Had wavy brown hair and eyes the color of the sky." Scarlett replied and I looked up meeting her gaze.
"Scar. Is this Charlotte?" I asked clicking on the picture and enlarging it before turning my computer for her to see. I knew as soon as she looked at the picture it was her. Scarlett's face turned white and then she blinked as if trying to erase the picture.
"That's her. But that means that she got out. It also means that she forgot about me." Scar muttered as tears pulled in her eyes.
"Scar she has no memory at all. She remembers nothing." I said and the tears won the fight. The poured down her cheeks like a steady stream.
