Kate's POV

I woke up in a hospital room with Isaac sitting by my side holding my hand. "Hi. What happened?" I asked with a slight smile.

"Kate. How much do you remember?" Isaac asked with a blank expression but worried eyes.

"I remember Scarlett calling. I remember we went to help her. She was hiding in the bathroom. Andrew slipped up behind me. I pissed him off and he pushed me to the floor as he pulled the trigger. You killed him." I answered remembering very clearly.

"Do you remember where you were shot?" Isaac asked and I finally realized where this conversation was going.

"Is it permanent?" I asked and his eyes widened before I couldn't compose them. My sobs racked my body as my nurse came in.

"Don't allow anyone but her brother in!" Isaac screamed at her before he sat on the bed next to me and pulled me into a hug.

"Kate. They said that you might be able to overcome it. But it's going to be okay. I'm not going to leave your side. We are going to do this together. You will never be alone." Isaac said and I looked up at him.

"My job? Everything I have ever worked for? What? It all goes down the drain? What about Scarlett? Something tells me that this isn't over yet. Who is going to protect her?" I asked loudly my temper getting the best of me.

"Kat. Sometimes you just have to worry about yourself. Do what's best for you." Isaac said pressing a kiss to my forehead.

"Making sure Scarlett is okay is what's best for me because if something happens to her I won't be able to live with myself." I answer as my door opens and Dylan walks in with Scarlett right behind him.

"Oh Kate I'm so sorry." Scarlett said coming to my side as Dylan met Isaac's eye and nodded at the door. With a squeeze on my hand Isaac left leaving me and Scarlett alone.

"Scarlett is there anything else that you need to tell me?" I ask looking her in the eye as I changed the subject.

"Yes. I already told Dylan and I was going to tell you yesterday but you left before I could." Scarlett said looking away from me.

"What is it?" I ask knowing the worried look on her face.

"There is someone else involved. She called me fourteen years ago the day we all went to the lake. She said your family will pay. The next day I was kidnapped." Scarlett said making herself at home.

"Do you remember who she is?" I asked knowing she would have told me if she did.

"No. But that's the strange part. Her voice is so familiar almost as if I had heard it all my life but something is keeping me from remembering and I don't know what." Scarlett answered shaking her head. "Oh and I found out why I was a victim." Scarlett added causing my eyes to widen.

"Why?" I asked looking at her. Pressing the button to make me sit up so I could meet her eyes.

"My dad. He was best friends with Cage, Henry, and Steve. My dad got drunk one night and evidently he was seeing their sister. There was an accident and she was killed. Cage took the blame. And used it for black mail." Scarlett said shocking me.

"So when they wanted money they went to him to plan a bank robbery. All was good until dad got cold feet and turned them in. Since then you know what happened." Scarlett said her voice a little scratchy as if she had been crying.

"Scarlett when I did my research it showed that they only had one sister and that was Journey. Unless there was another sister doesn't that mean they lied to your dad?" I asked as the thought popped into my head.

"Yeah. That's possible. But I don't think it's the same sister. Something tells me it's not, I mean I could be wrong." Scarlett replied and her eyes widened.

"What is it?" I asked worriedly.

"What if the sister didn't die? What if she changed her name and started a new life had kids about the same time as my dad or before. What if she was hiding from her family too?" Scarlett asked and it was totally possible.

"That's a good thought. How about we both start research tomorrow? You get her name from your dad. And I will do the online searches." I suggest hoping she will agree.

"That sounds great." Scarlett said giving me a small smile.

"When did you get that? How is it for you?" I asked changing the subject again as I noticed the prosthetic she was wearing

"Huh? Oh I got it this morning. And I'm still getting used to it. It's a lot better than those stupid crutches though. So I guess I can't really complain." Scarlett said and I started feeling bad once again.

"I'm sorry. You shouldn't have been in a place where I had to make the decision for you." I said reaching for her hand. She let me take it and squeeze it. "Have you and Dylan talked yet?" I asked with a smile.

"No. We are putting it off until it's all over. You know now I wish Cage was alive so I could question him about this. I don't like to think that my dad had anything to do with this but he did and I don't know what to do about it." Scarlett replied with a reply.

"Scar. Don't put off the talk. It's just going to hurt you both. I know for a fact that you have always liked Dylan. And it became clear to me that he loves you. And about your dad. I would like to be there to hear his side of the conversation." I said and she nodded.

"When will you get out of this hell hole?" Scarlett asked and I shrugged.

"I don't really know. I haven't spoken to a doctor. And Isaac would probably throw a fit if I left. But right now I don't care. Can you get me out of here?" I asked hopefully.

"Tell me where I can take a wheelchair and we will both leave." Scarlett said and I smiled. "Well shouldn't you stay here in case you start bleeding or something?" Scarlett asked and I grabbed the plastic cup off the side table and tossed it at her. She smirked and ducked.

She turned and left the room. A few minutes later she walked back in pushing a wheelchair. "You need help changing?" She asked and I nodded.

"Yeah. I'm not sure how I'm going to get my jeans back on if I can't move my legs." I answered and she locked the door. She helped me get dressed and then helped me into the ugly red wheelchair.

"There let's get out of here before they come back. I told Dylan I was going to stay a while and pretended to be going to the bathroom. He got Isabelle and Henry to babysit." Scarlett said as she pushed me into the hall.

"Good. Let's get out of here." I said and we headed for the parking lot.
