Kate's POV

Just as I opened my mouth to try and comfort Scarlett, Dylan walked in. He looked so strange in the green scrubs. "How is he?" Mom and I asked at the same time.

"Dad will have a full recovery. The surgery went very well. And he's already awake waiting on you guys. He said quote unquote, 'When on get out of this hell hole this family is going to have a conversation about the future.' Don't wear him out. He isn't at his full strength right now." Dylan said not even sounding like a surgeon.

"Oh and it's family only so you guys stay in here." Dylan replied glaring at Isaac. I stood squeezing Isaac's hand and leaning down to hug Scarlett.

"We can go see her in the morning after we all get some rest." I said with a small smile. She gave one back but she looked like she was about to cry.

"You guys go on. I'm going to stay here." Dylan said looking down at me. I nodded and grabbed moms arm pulling her to the door.

We stepped in the hall and I wished that I hadn't chose to be alone with her. "Kate. We need to talk." Mom said as we walked toward dad's room slowly.

"No. You kicked me out. You don't get to tell me what I can or can't do. I'm a cop and nothing you do or say is going to change that." I said as the door came into view.

"I'm not trying to change you. For the past few years I had a lot of time to think about everything that I have done. I'm sorry that I kicked you and Dylan out over stupid little things." Mom said her voice cracking.

"I realized to late that you needed Dylan. I didn't realize that you were still coping with Scarlett's disappearance. And I sent the only person that could help you away. I'm so sorry." Mom said stopping outside the door.

"I forgive you." I whispered walking into Dad's room trying to swallow the lump in my throat. "Dad?" I asked walking to his bed side.

His eyes opened and he smiled a little. "Kat. How as you?" He asked quietly.

"I'm fine dad. But how are you feeling?" I asked reaching for his hand. He squeezed my hand reassuringly as I felt tears well up in my eyes.

"To be honest I feel as if a truck hit me in the chest." Dad said looking behind me. I turned to look at Mom who was crying. "Hey honey." He said smiling widely.

"Dad. I have to go now. I haven't slept well lately and it's well past midnight so if you don't mind..." I said trailing off as he turned to look at me.

"Go. Go get some rest. And take Scarlett with you she is going to need someone." Dad said and I nodded. Then I remembered the pain in Dylan's eyes when he saw Scarlett balling her eyes out.

I stood ands left the room. I walked slowly into the waiting room and took a survey of who was still there. Isaac, Isabelle, and Henry. Isabelle was snuggled up into Henry's side and they were both asleep.

Isaac on the other hand looked up as I walked in. He stood and pulled me into his arms. "Where is she?" I asked looking up at him.

"Dylan took her home with him. Mrs. Payne had a fit. But Dylan explained that he was an old family friend. Even had a picture to prove it in his wallet." Isaac replied quietly. "Come on. You need some rest. We can stay at my place." Isaac said picking up my computer.

"What about Henry and Isabelle?" I asked looking over my shoulder at them.

"Isabelle has to stay here. Let's wake them up and send them to their room." Isaac said in response.

"We are heading that way. Kate how's your dad?" Isabelle said with a small smile.

"He's going to be okay. He has to stay overnight so they can monitor his heart. But Dylan believes that he will make a full recovery." I responded wishing she had received good news for herself today.

"Okay. Goodbye. You go home and get yourself some rest. If you need anything you know where to find us." Isabelle said tiredly.

"Yeah. Goodnight. You guys need rest to so I'm not going to bother any more. Tonight anyways." I said and they both smiled and chuckled a little.

"Come on." Isaac said wrapping an arm around my waist and leading me out of the room. "Bye Henry. Isabelle." Isaac said as we left. "How's your foot? You are limping pretty bad." Isaac asked looking down at me.

"Honestly it hurts like hell. Just like my head and the rest of my body. A few hours of sleep will help me out a lot." I said as my truck came into view.

Suddenly I was off my feet being held by Isaac's strong arms. "Isaac what are you doing? I can walk." I protested even as I snuggled closer to his chest.

"You were dead on your feet and you know it." Isaac responded opening the door and setting me in the seat. He closed the door as my eyes drifted shut. I heard the door close and the truck start before I fell asleep.

"Come on Kat. Wake up." Isaac said his voice waking me up.

"Let me sleep." I whined not opening my eyes. I heard a chuckle then a door closing. Then I was in his arms my eye flying open. "Hey!" I exclaimed looking up at him.

"You wouldn't wake up so I improvised. At least this way you don't have to walk." Isaac said as I wrapped my arms around his neck and snuggled into his chest closing my eyes.

"You're right." I mumbled into his chest listening as his chest vibrated under my ear from laughter.  I smiled as we stepped into the warm house. "You know I just realized that I'm in my pajamas." I said opening my eyes to look up at him.

"Well then." Isaac said walking into his bedroom. He laid me on the bed and kissed my forehead as he pulled the covers up. "I'll be right back." He said before turning the light out and leaving the room.

Just as I dozed off I felt the bed sink in. "Isaac?" I asked turning towards him.

"Who else would it be?" Isaac asked reaching out and pulling me against his chest. His very bare chest. "Go to sleep Kat." Isaac whispered huskily as I placed my hands on his toned chest. I closed my eyes as he pulled me closer.

I felt the heaviness weighing down on me and as I slipped into the land of dreams I heard the five whispered words.

"Goodnight Kat. I love you."
