Scarlett's POV
"Kat. I called an ambulance. Do I need to call mom and dad?" Dylan asked looking down at her worriedly.
"Don't worry them. I'm fine." Kate said as she passed out. I stepped out of the shower and walked to her side in silence.
"She's going to okay isn't she?" I asked worriedly looking up at Dylan as he tried to stop the bleeding.
"I don't know Scar. I just don't know." He replied and I felt the lump form in my throat. "Scar? Are you okay?" Dylan asked as I stepped away from them.
"It's my fault. This is all my fault." I whispered repeating the two lines over and over. I backed out of the room and bumped into the wall. I slid down it and the sobs racked my body as the EMTs ran into the house.
I watched as Dylan let one of the guys take over for him. Then they rushed her out with Isaac running behind them. "Scar. Please deep breaths. Calm down." Dylan said sitting next to me and wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
"You don't understand. This is my fault. I just watched my best friend get shot for me. And knowing that the only reason that she was here was to help me only makes it worse." I said the tears rolling down my cheeks faster.
"Scar. This isn't your fault. Kate getting shot wasn't your fault. None of this is your fault." Dylan said trying his best to comfort me but it isn't working.
"Dylan. If I hadn't called Kate none of this would have happened. Hell if fourteen years ago I hadn't invited her to come to my house after school this wouldn't have happened. She would have thought I ran away just like everyone else did." I said wiping my tears away.
"I didn't think you ran away. I knew there was something off. Especially when I couldn't get Kate to talk to me. I watched for months as she jumped at every little thing or noise. How she flinched when you were brought up. Even in her letters I could tell she was just putting up a front." Dylan said with a shake of his head.
"I bet you would have never guessed that she was there. That she tried to help me. Or that she would become a cop just to save my life from a few psychopaths. Or that she would get shot just trying to help me because I called her." I said and he slowly shook his head no.
"Well that's exactly what fucking happened. All because my dad thought it would be fine to betray his crazy friends. Then he acts as if he had nothing to do with any of this fucking shit." I'm full on letting it all out now.
"If he hadn't accidentally killed their sister he wouldn't have planned a bank robbery with them. And then he wouldn't have gone to the police. And then I wouldn't have been kidnapped for fourteen years." I said sobs racking my body.
"Did you remember who called you the day we went to the lake?" Dylan asks causing me to look up at him.
"Kate thinks it's over. That why she gave up. Get me to the hospital I have to tell her it's not over. There is still somebody that wants me dead." I said standing and he stood next to me.
"Do you remember who it is?" Dylan asked wrapping an arm around my shoulder as we made our way to his room to retrieve the kids.
"Not yet but her voice has become clearer over the past few days." I answered walking towards the closet. I turned the knob and quickly pulled it open.
I sighed in relief when I saw Taylor holding baby Joshua leaned up against the wall sound asleep. I leaned down and gently shaking her awake. "Mama? Is everything okay now?" She asked looking up at me with sleep filled eyes.
"Yes." I said trying to give her a reassuring smile. "Come on you can take a nap in the car." I said taking Joshua from her as she slowly stood.
"Scar how is the prosthetic doing? Does it need adjusting?" Dylan asked from behind me as he swung Taylor into his arms.
"It's fine. I just need a little longer to get used to it." I replied as we started outside. He nodded before opening the car door for me. Then he placed Taylor into the backseat in her brand-new hot pink car seat.
By the time Dylan got in and started the car she was already asleep. "So you remember that the caller was female?" Dylan asked pulling into the busy street.
"Yeah. The voice it is so familiar to me that I can almost picture the woman in my head but something is keeping me from remembering clearly. It's strange how you can be so close but so far away to." I said shifting Joshua into my left arm.
"Maybe you could try being hypnotized." Dylan suggested as he pulled into the hospital parking lot.
"No. It will come to me. Just hope it's not to late. Now let's go see how Kate is." I said changing the subject as he parked.
"Scarlett." He said and I paused to turn to look at him. "When this is all over we need to have a conversation. About everything. Okay?" Dylan asked meeting my eyes keeping me from looking away.
"Okay. But I still have to remember." I replied getting out and waiting as he retrieved Taylor being careful not to wake her. I smiled at his fatherly stance.
I turned and walked in with him following right behind me. I walked to the front desk and the young man looked up at me with a smile. "Hi. Could you tell me where I can find Kate Brian?" I asked smiling back.
"I'm sorry but family only. I was told only to let her fiancee and her brother back to see her." The man said shaking his head slightly.
"I'm Dylan Brian. And this is my wife Scarlett. I would appreciate it if you would allow us to see my sister." Dylan said lying as if it was a second nature to him.
"Oh. I'm sorry I wasn't aware that you were married. Just go to the recovery unit. And don't act strangely. She's already taking the news badly." The man said causing me to turn back to him.
"What news?" I asked and he stares at me strangely.
"You haven't heard?" He asked shocked and I shook my head no. "Miss Brian is paralyzed from the waist down." He said sharing his news with me.
