The campfire grew bright and reflected in Laurie's eyes as the laughter and fireworks were rare to listen to. Meg was laughing with Nea as Bill and Feng were taking a drink that David supplied.
Laurie smiled and watched as Dwight was snuggled up against Jake. Dwight blamed it for being too cold but everyone knew about their crush. Ace was getting drunk with David as they played Poker with a lucky ace hidden up Ace's sleeve.
Claudette was talking to Tapp about her knowledge and letting Tapp in his. Laurie already knew that had some sort of relationship. Maybe mentor and apprenticeship? Or something more? Laurie just shrugged as her mind wondered.
Just to have this secret thing from the Entity just to have a night. A night to inspire hope and to build up the friendship that has been lost. If the Entity did know about it, would it stop this? Or would it only make it false?
"Laurie?" A voice caused Laure look up to mean the blushing face of Quentin. "Yes?" Laurie asked kind of upset she was pulled out of her brooding but it was Quentin. She could never be mad at him.
"You seemed to be all alone," Quentin said, sitting next to her. "Nah, just alone with my thoughts so not all alone." She said with a chuckle. "This day doesn't stay forever, why not join it while you have the chance?" Quentin asked. Laurie let it sink it before looking at him. "What would you suggest?" Laurie asked.
Quentin stood up and offered his hand. "Would you like to dance with me?" He asked with a newfound confidence, his smile caused Laurie's heart to skip. "I don't know how to," Laurie told him attempting his hand as she laid her on his shoulders the other still connected with his hand. "Then we can be fools together." He smiled, his hand on her waist.
They stumbled over and got confused on what to do but that only made Laurie smile and laugh. Quentin enjoyed every glimpse of her smile and loved the sound of her laugh. Though finally what seemed like hours they found a basic waltz they followed.
Quentin spun her around only to sweep her off her feet and twirl her around with his hands still on her hips. Her hands on his shoulders, extended upwards as her head slowly fell down to the top of his.
She was giggling as the smile never left her face. "See? You can smile." Quentin told her, with the hugest closed-eye grin Laurie ever seen. Laurie placed her hand on the back of his neck and kissed him, causing his eyes to fly open. He kissed her back, still shocked at the sudden move as she hugged him.
"Wh-What was that for?" The confidence side slowly died down as his shyness overcame him. "To thank you," Laurie said with a smiled. "For what?" He looked at her as she held his hand. "For showing me that there is hope in this place." She giggled and kissed his cheek.
"I showed you hope?" He looked shocked, gripping her hands. "What are you talking about?" Laurie asked. Quentin looked at her, his free hand caressing her cheek. "You were the reason I kept pushing forwards. How calm you were when you were on those trails. I was so happy to be with you and around you." Quentin told her, smiling.
Quentin stepped closer, one of his hand on the back of her neck and the other gently on her waist. His leaned in close and teased her bottom lip until pulling her close and kissing her. The fireworks blasted above their head as the quiet laughter made it a perfect kiss.
"I-I love you," Quentin told her softly, seeing the blush on Laurie's face caused him to smile and hugged her close. They watched the fireworks explode and make memorizing shapes. Laurie's head leaned on his shoulder with a smile. "I love you too Quin."
