I sit by the Pokémon Center, waiting. Someone sits down next to me. I look to my right and see Barry. He smiles at me. "What are you doing here?"

A few more people pass me before I answer. "Why are we doing this?"

"You know, you shouldn't answer a question with a question." I glare at him. He sighs. "We're doing this because we wanted to. That's the only reason we do anything."

"When we fought Charon and the others, we were forced to."

Barry chuckles. "Of course not. We could've just done nothing. We chose to do something. We could've given up at any time, but we didn't."

"Why are we even battling?"

"People and Pokémon both love to battle. You and your pokémon always get closer at the end of every battle, don't they?"

I look down at the ground. "So why did you come and talk to me?" I finally ask.

He smiles. "You looked down."

I smile as more people pass by. "Now, are you actually going to give up?" he asks me.

I look at him and grin. "Of course not."

Everything starts going black. "Then wake up."

I open my eyes, seeing a blurry Nurse Joy standing at the counter. Someone is tapping my shoulder. I look at Dawn and smile. She looks concerned. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah. I'm just thinking."

"About what?"

"The Pokémon League."

She sighs, smiling, and sits down next to me. "It's almost time to go. The last match is almost over."

"Alright."

Nurse Joy smiles at me. "Eve is all better now." She then glares at me. "I'm getting a bit tired of patching her up, though."

"Thank you. I'll be more careful. Can you go get her?"

She nods, smiling again. "Certainly."

She walks into the back room and opens a door. Eve immediately runs out from behind the counter. "Chris!" she shouts, jumping onto my lap.

I smile and start petting her. Dawn even strokes her fur. Eve gasps, then jumps down, walking over to Fennec. "Sorry. I'm still getting used to you being here."

Fennec smiles. "Nine."

I look down at her. "How are you speaking so clearly after one day?"

She looks up at me. "I knew the basic structure. I just needed to practice it, which I have done all day."

I chuckle. "Let's get going, you two."

Uxie floats down. "You three," she corrects.

I look at her. "You should have spoken up."

She giggles, and we get going.

We end up at Flint's house. Inside is Flint, May, and Michael. Michael sees me and sighs, walking over to me. "Look... about the battle..." he starts.

I put my hand up. "No big deal. You know, I was about to forfeit when you said it."

He looks at me, shocked. "You'd give up?"

I look at Uxie then at Dawn. I nod. "Yeah. The Pokémon League isn't really my goal anymore."

He crosses his arms. "Are you sure?"

Dawn puts her hand on my shoulder. "I'll be with May."

I smile, then look at Michael. "I've decided. I'm going to be an Aura Guardian."
