Chapter 53: The Tournament Begins

I dress in my usual clothes. I hear Dawn yawning as she wakes up. "Morning, honey," she mumbles.

I look back at her and smile. "Morning, sweetie."

Eve runs over to me and looks at me. "We going to go now?" she asks excitedly.

I smile. "Once Dawn gets ready."

"You two go get registered. I'll meet up with you in line. I'm not fighting, so I can meet up with you."

Eve bites my pant leg and pulls on it. "Let's go! She said it's fine!"

I laugh. "Okay. Okay."

I turn back to Dawn. "See you in a bit."

I get in line behind a young man around my age. He's wearing a blue hoodie with the hood down and jeans. The line is pretty long, but it should only take about half an hour to reach the front. The person in front of me sighs and turns around. He seems vaguely familiar. Eve sits down, waiting. "I thought it would be more exciting."

"Hey there," the man says. "What's your name?"

"Chris. You?"

"Michael."

The name too. It's familiar. The man inspects me closer. "Have I met you before?"

"I was wondering the same."

Suddenly Staraptor and Empoleon come out of their pokéballs. Staraptor lands on my shoulder and Empoleon stands next to Eve. Eve sighs. "They said they were too excited to stay in."

I sigh. Michael gasps. "It's you!"

I cock my head to the side. "I don't follow."

"You were the one with the Piplup and the Starly! Near Sandgem Town, remember? We had a battle?"

I gasp. "Oh my Arceus! It's been so long since then!"

The girl behind me clears her throat. "Can you two please quiet down?"

I turn around. A girl that's about 15 is standing there. She's a brunette with a red bandana. It has an image of a white pokéball on it. She's wearing a red, short sleeve jacket which is black just under the collar. She has a yellow bag around her waist, grey and white gloves, and a white shirt. She has skin-tight grey pants reach a little bit above her knees coming out from under the skirt. She has ocean-blue eyes. "Who are you?"

She smiles. "My name's May. I'm from the Hoenn region."

"What brings you to Sinnoh? Definitely not the weather."

She laughs. "You've got that right. I'm here for the Pokémon League. I've heard that Cynthia's the strongest Champion in the world."

"If she's so strong, why didn't she stop Team Galactic?" I mumble.

"What was that?" May asks, sounding offended.

"None of your business."

Eve starts giggling. "Dumbass, the line's moving."

I gasp and turn around. Michael yelps and moves up. Staraptor stretches and closes his eyes. Eve and Empoleon walk up. May looks at Staraptor. "Cool. He looks pretty tough."

Staraptor stand proud at the complement. She turns to Empoleon. "As does he."

"She..."

"Oh. Sorry," she says, smiling.

She sees Sylveon. She kneels down. "Who is this?! She's adorable!"

Eve opens her eyes and sees May. Eve walks over to me and wraps her feeler around my arm. "This is Eve, my Sylveon."
