Shivaay is a money minded businessman, a loving husband, a responsible son, a caring brother/brother-in-law and he is a fatherly figure already, but only wants to be a father when he and his wife both are actually prepared to take on this responsibility.

(P.S.: Today's entire episode was based on Shivaay's perspective. Then question arises about what Annika feels. But I believe 1) this issue required one opposing view, it would be ineffective if both shared the same perspective. So there had to be an elaborate discussion. 2) Shivaay hasn't imposed any decision as of now and repetitively uttered, "the couple should have a kid when BOTH are ready for it" so even though today he did all the talking he does acknowledge the fact that Annika's opinion matters. 3) There is always a tomorrow. It isn't possible that Annika doesn't have anything to say, agreement, disagreement or further discussion, it's upon her & how she analyses what Shivaay said, it will come up His POV was too elaborate for her one to be incorporated too right now. Lastly yes this issue was personal and that's how he wanted to keep it. But an anxious curious Annika wanted an answer right now and his family had completely different views. Even with intimacy he wanted to keep it private yet he did discuss because of opposing views. Yes the matter is still very personal but when such topics are under-discussed because of privacy concerns & shyness, following generations sheepishly follow the "traditions" that should be discussed, discussion is a healthy activity & a necessity.)
